Job Title:

Structures Mechanic

This role focuses on heavy maintenance and structural modification work on ATR turboprop aircraft operated by an air cargo carrier. You will interpret task cards and blueprints, select appropriate tools, perform structural repairs and installations, and present completed work for inspection. The position involves precise drilling, reaming, riveting, and fabrication tasks, as well as corrosion control and installation of structural reinforcements.

You may support the heavy check line during a major 11,000-hour modification project on an ATR
72-700 or be trained to join the dedicated modification team.

Responsibilities
  • Receive task cards, review work instructions, and read blueprints to understand required structural repairs and modifications.
  • Identify and gather the appropriate tools, equipment, and materials needed to complete assigned tasks.
  • Perform drilling, reaming, countersinking, and riveting operations on aircraft structures to close tolerances using standard and blind/pop rivets, including HI-Loks.
  • Carry out sheet metal repairs and fabrication, including basic fabrication of parts and assemblies in accordance with engineering drawings and maintenance manuals.
  • Conduct corrosion control activities, including removal of corrosion and restoration of affected areas to required standards.
  • Fabricate and install stringers, doublers, and other structural reinforcements on ATR aircraft as specified by blueprints and task cards.
  • Install structural components, verify proper fit and alignment, and perform quality checks to ensure compliance with airworthiness and company standards.
  • Support heavy maintenance C-checks on ATR aircraft and contribute to the ongoing 11,000-hour modification program on the ATR
    72-700.
  • Work within an MRO hangar environment, coordinating with inspectors and other technicians to ensure timely completion of maintenance and modification tasks.
  • Present completed work for inspection, address any discrepancies, and make necessary corrections to meet inspection requirements.
  • Maintain and use a personal set of professional-grade tools, ensuring they are in good working condition and suitable for structural work.
  • Follow all safety procedures, shop practices, and documentation requirements associated with aircraft maintenance and repair.
Essential Skills
  • At least 5 years of aircraft structural repair or fabrication experience, with demonstrated ability to drill, ream, countersink, and rivet sheet metal while working from blueprints.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, engineering drawings, and maintenance documentation for aircraft structures.
  • Strong sheet metal skills, including structural repair and fabrication on aircraft components.
  • Ability to perform precise drilling, reaming, riveting, and countersinking to close tolerances using standard rivets, blind/pop rivets, and HI-Loks.
  • Experience in corrosion control and structural reinforcement, including fabrication and installation of stringers and doublers.
  • MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) experience in an aircraft hangar environment.
  • Capability to pass a basic structures fabrication test involving securing metal plates with multiple types of rivets.
  • Ownership of a personal tool set suitable for aircraft structural work, including at minimum: drill motor, countersink cage/microstop, rivet gun, rivet sets, 1/4" ratchet and sockets, grinder, machinist's scale/rule, and clecos.

  • Experience working on ATR aircraft or similar turboprop platforms in a heavy maintenance or modification environment.
  • Experience in supporting C-checks or other heavy check maintenance activities within an MRO facility.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality structural work that meets inspection and airworthiness standards.
  • Ability to adapt to new modification programs and learn customer-specific procedures and requirements.
  • Comfort working on second shift and adjusting to minor schedule changes as the new shift is refined.
  • Effective communication skills for coordinating with inspectors, technicians, and other team members in the hangar.
  • Reliability in maintaining consistent attendance and meeting project timelines in a long-term maintenance and modification setting.
