American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Mother Baby (Postpartum) unit position requiring BLS, NRP, and STABLE certifications with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar setting.
Requirements- Active Idaho RN license or compact RN license required (no pending licenses accepted)
- Current certifications required: BLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), and STABLE — copies of active certifications required (pending certifications not accepted)
- Minimum 2 years of Mother Baby or equivalent postpartum nursing experience preferred; candidates with 1 year of experience must have experience in a comparable setting
- Magnesium drip experience preferred
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Valid driver's license required for consideration
- Acute care hospital setting on a dedicated Mother Baby (Postpartum) floor with 32 maternal beds and couplet care capacity
- Patient population includes postpartum mothers and well newborns, including c-section recoveries, magnesium drip patients, higher-risk maternal patients, twins, circumcision, and frenectomy patients — well babies only (NICU-level care not managed on this unit)
- Standard nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3 couplets (1:6 mother/baby); magnesium patients are assigned at a 1:4 ratio
- Unit delivers approximately 350–400 births per month
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including magnesium and Pitocin per postpartum protocols
- Charting is done in Epic; experience is preferred
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend or as needed
- Holiday coverage is expected as needed
- Travelers are first to float to sister hospitals (Meridian and Nampa campuses) for like patient assignments and may occasionally sit with patients on other floors
- No on-call or standby requirement, though opportunities to pick up additional shifts may arise
- Manager sets the schedule; no block scheduling or special scheduling requests accepted
- Unit is a locked floor supported by CNAs, a health unit coordinator, a discharge nurse (days), and lactation consultants using the ABM model
- Contracted support staff handle hearing screens, photography, car seat safety, and newborn screenings; lab performs newborn metabolic screenings
- OB hospitalist and APP are available 24/7; neonatologist is in-house in the NICU 24/7 and available for emergencies; anesthesia is in-house 24/7
- Charge nurse is free of patient assignment
- Orientation consists of 2–3 shifts; travelers are oriented to float coverage at Nampa and Meridian campuses as well as patient sitting duties
- Scrubs of any color (solid or print) are acceptable; must be clean and presentable; closed-toe and closed-heel shoes required (no Crocs)
- Former permanent employees of this health system must have been separated for at least one year before being eligible for a travel assignment
- A manager interview is required as part of the selection process
