Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Archaeologist to serve as a technical leader on complex cultural resource management (CRM) projects for our Florida-based team. Direct experience working in Florida (particularly South Florida) is strongly desired, as well as the ability to travel and work outside this region. Archaeological experience in additional states along the Eastern Seaboard is a plus. This role will coordinate with clients, lead field investigations, shape research strategies, and apply advanced methods to real-world archaeological challenges.

Technical leadership and field methodologies, data analysis and research, technical reporting and documentation, mentorship and technical training, and business development are key responsibilities.

Technical Leadership and Field Methodologies
  • Design and implement advanced archaeological field survey, excavation, and site assessment methodologies.
  • Use ground penetrating radar, GIS, LiDAR, laser scanning, and remote sensing to enhance site analysis and predictive modeling.
  • Develop and refine artifact recovery, documentation, and conservation techniques.
  • Ensure consistency and accuracy in field data collection through quality control measures.
Data Analysis and Research
  • Conduct high-level statistical and geospatial analysis to interpret archaeological findings.
  • Develop predictive modeling techniques for identifying and assessing archaeological sensitivity areas.
  • Integrate environmental, geological, and hydrological data into cultural resource analyses.
  • Perform detailed artifact analysis, including material composition studies and use-wear analysis.
Technical Reporting and Documentation
  • Prepare and peer-review comprehensive technical reports, ensuring accuracy in methodologies, findings, and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and refine standardized reporting procedures and documentation protocols.
Mentorship and Technical Training
  • Provide technical training and mentor junior archaeologists in advanced field methods, data analysis, and reporting standards.
  • Develop internal best practices for field documentation, artifact processing, and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct workshops and training sessions on emerging archaeological technologies and methodologies.
Business Development
  • Leverage technical expertise to help sell focused services, including writing proposals, developing budgets, and coordinating with the team to market to potential clients and client sectors.
  • Partner with Project Managers/Proposal Champions on complex project pursuits.
  • Actively monitor and respond effectively to technology, research, and industry trends.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 12+ years of experience in archaeological fieldwork, technical research, and CRM, including a minimum of 5 years designing and leading fieldwork and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Advanced degree (Master's or Doctorate) in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
  • Meets the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards for Archaeology.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
  • Ability to mentor and train junior staff in technical and methodological aspects of archaeological fieldwork and lab processing.
  • Experience working with indigenous communities and facilitating tribal consultation processes.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret cultural findings and focus on data-driven reporting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong background in statistical and spatial analysis for archaeological data interpretation.
  • Willingness to travel for fieldwork, often in remote locations and under challenging conditions.
  • Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA).
  • Maintains good professional relationships with regional federal and state agency reviewers and Tribal contacts.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, clients, agency staff, landowners, and field crews.
