Summary

This Archaeologist (State Cultural Resources Specialist) position serves on a NRCS State Resource Conservation Staff and is located in a State Office of the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and is responsible for guidance and assistance to field personnel and resource technical teams for conservation, protection, and enhancement of cultural resources, including Native American and Alaska Native issues, encountered in all NRCS programs and activities.

• Serves as a staff specialist on all cultural resources issues and concerns that result from the implementation of NRCS programs and activities.
• Carries out field investigations and produces professional quality cultural resources investigation and assessment reports.
• Prepares and maintains all technical guides and information dealing with cultural resources.
• Prepares technical cultural resource sections of contracts, environmental documents, agreement documents and other instruments of agency intent.
• Keeps abreast of developments and research in Archaeological methods and procedures.
• Identifies necessary cultural resources studies, develops specifications for scopes of work, determines cultural and scientific significance of identified resources in accordance with the guidelines and national Register of Historic Places criteria
• Provide archaeology and cultural resources technical assistance, guidance, and training to NRCS field area and state office employees.
• Communicate results of archaeological studies or cultural resources compliance requirements to managers and stakeholders with varying levels of familiarity with archaeology and cultural resources laws.
