North Star Spirits is looking for a results-driven Liquor Store Taste Tester/Brand Ambassador to actively seek out and engage shoppers during in-store liquor tasting events. You will provide free liquor samples to shoppers and encourage the proper use of each particular liquor item in cocktails, as well as encourage bottle sales, for specific liquor brands in our portfolio.
Responsibilities- Present, pour, and promote liquor products to prospective shoppers
- Establish, develop and maintain positive business relationships with Idaho State Liquor Division employees and staff
- Achieve agreed upon sales targets and outcomes on a regular basis
- Coordinate sales efforts with company owners through check-in's and updates
- Track sales and marketing efforts
- Supply owners with reports based on customer needs and interests
- Keep abreast of best practices, promotional, and liquor industry trends
- Regularly interact with owners, and update programming, brand priorities and best practices leading to successful execution in the market
- Continuously improve through feedback
- Set-up, attend, and run promotional tasting events at liquor stores:
Thursdays & Fridays from 4:00-7:00pm, and Saturdays from 1:30-4:30pm (as well as the potential for other hours). Most of the time, these events will be on Friday and Saturday afternoons. Other times will be on Thursday and Friday afternoons. We typically run two tastings per week, per person. Hour may vary from 3 to 6 hours per week, depending on how many tastings you work each week. - Fridays evenings are mandatory, as they are our busiest and most productive tasting events. There will be a regular, pre-planned schedule of either Friday/Saturday each week, or Thursday/Friday each week, as well as other possible days, depending on your availability. There will always be at least 1-2 tastings per week on an on-going basis.
- The times of these tastings are non-negotiable, as they are set by the Idaho State Liquor Division, so please do not apply if you are not available to work during the hours specified above. We can accommodate occasional requests for certain days off, as long as they are planned about 45-60 days in advance, when the schedule is being created.
- Proven work experience as a Sales, Marketing, or Event Representative and/or in the Adult Beverage Industry
- Proficient knowledge of computers, email, and data entry to submit and file post-event reports
- Ability to respond to ALL emails, and stay on top of communication
- Familiarity with Constant Contact email software (and/or the ability to learn), in order to obtain and input customer email addresses into the system, which are gathered during Store Tastings
- Highly motivated and target driven with a proven track record in Sales, Marketing, and/or Event execution
- Excellent selling, communication, relationship-building, and negotiation skills
- Prioritizing, time management, and organizational skills
- Ability to independently run liquor sampling promotional events to the public
- Relationship management skills and openness to feedback is a huge plus!
- Although it is not required, a background in the beer, wine and/or the liquor industry is also a huge plus!
- Valid Idaho State Motor Vehicle License and the ability to maintain auto liability insurance in accordance with Idaho State laws to commute to perform store tastings throughout the Treasure Valley metro area (Boise, Meridian, Kuna, Nampa, Caldwell, Garden City, etc.)
- A clean background check will be required over the past 7 years, and there is absolutely NO TOLERANCE for DUI's on a background check
- TIPS, Sure Sell Now , A+ Server Training, Boise Police Alcohol Server Training, or other similar alcohol server certification that is current (or the ability to obtain within 10 days). If you do not currently have this, we recommend Please take the Boise, Idaho, class. It is only $12.95 and lasts for 3 years, so it looks great on your resume!
- Comprehensive understanding of liquor spirits to include mashing, distilling, and bottling of product, as well as product/food pairing techniques, and basic knowledge of the difference between spirits categories and/or a willingness to learn
- Strong negotiation and selling skills
- Demonstrate a self-motivated spirit
- Ability to suggest innovative cocktail ideas
- Goal-oriented, focused, and assertive individual who needs little direction and/or supervision, once fully trained
