Position:
Mobile Diesel Technician Level II

The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. The Technician II can perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr. Mobile Diesel Technician or higher. The Technician II continues to learn additional advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques.

A successful Technician II complies with all company policies and achieves high‑level performance metrics.

Duties
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches, differentials, etc.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment such as electrical, brake, cooling, air conditioning, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
  • Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and generate/evaluate alternatives.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on company‑issued service truck; perform periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
  • Work effectively with clients and customers to assess needs, provide assistance, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
  • Manage concurrent tasks, prioritizing work and time allocations.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work on Repair Orders (RO) using company‑issued iOS device and proprietary TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and all other required documentation promptly.
  • Work independently and manage daily schedule.
  • Maintain high productivity and meet Standard Repair Times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
  • Communicate with management and support via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings.
  • Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Maintain company‑issued service truck, conduct safety checks, and perform daily pre/post‑trip inspections.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field (or equivalent combinations such as a higher degree or 5 years’ experience).
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary for job duties.
  • Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.
  • Must comply with DOT/FMCSA regulations, pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical.
  • A current valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining is acceptable; otherwise a DOT physical is required.
  • Must be 21 years or older.
