POSITION GENERAL
SUMMARY:
Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks related to the operation and maintenance of parks, buildings, facilities, fixtures, vehicles, vessels, equipment, parking areas, pathways, and grounds, and performs related duties as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Maintenance Mechanic I performs varied, moderately complex work under general supervision according to pre-defined guidelines.
Essential Functions
* Performs visual examinations and/or operational tests to determine the need for routine repair or maintenance of buildings, roofs, plumbing fixtures, concrete fixtures, mechanical and electrical systems, and HVAC systems;
* Records type of repair or cost of maintenance and repair work;
* Performs a variety of minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting tasks;
* Uses a variety of hand and power tools;
* Repairs and maintains structures;
* Maintains grounds: mows, weeds, rakes, cuts and prunes bushes, plants flowers, irrigates, landscapes, and removes snow;
* Operates equipment including: front-end loader, backhoe, forklift, floor scrubber, aerial man lift and snow removal equipment;
* Conducts preventive maintenance on equipment;
* Maintains cleanliness of facilities: picks up and removes trash, sweeps and mops floors, cleans windows and restrooms, etc.;
* Maintains and repairs boats, trailers, buoys, docks, and ramps;
* Operates boats including: docking, towing, and related maneuvers.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
* Provides seasonal public parking assistance to the public during the Boise River float season;
* May work with event staff to set up and disassemble facilities, including buildings, stages, tents, trailers, and exhibits;
* Supervises seasonal staff in the performance of a wide variety of unskilled labor tasks at various locations managed by Ada County Parks & Waterways.
Job Requirements
* Previous experience in facilities and grounds maintenance required;
* Forklift and/or aerial man-lift certification preferred;
* Knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of facilities;
* Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting practices;
* Knowledge of how to add, subtract, multiply, divide and work with simple fractions to measure material according to requirements and dimensions outlined in instructions;
* Knowledge of landscape maintenance;
* Knowledge of workplace safety procedures;
* Knowledge of small engine repair;
* Ability to assist, provide guidance and training to season staff;
* Ability to safely operate and maintain hand/power tools, backhoe, forklift, and dump truck;
* Ability to interact effectively with the co-workers and the public;
* Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions;
* Ability to provide excellent customer service to clients and patrons;
* Ability to operate equipment safely;
* Ability to operate motor vehicles (including light trucks) and boats safely;
* Ability to operate boats;
* Ability to perform maintenance and repair work safely;
* Ability to read blueprints, working drawings and read and understand maintenance/service manuals.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
* Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license issued by the State of Idaho, Commercial Driver's License preferred;
* Must earn and maintain current CPR certification;
* Must be available to work variable shifts, work some overtime, and be subject to call;
* Must be able to be reached by telephone after hours;
* Working hours for this position will vary and may include weekends;
* Must be able to support and work at all county parks & waterways facilities and buildings;
* May be assigned to special assignments as needed;
* This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
* Incumbent makes inspections/repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding and platforms, and where parts worked on may be in hard to reach places;
