POSITION TITLE: Certified Fire & Security System Technician

Benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance and Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERSI). They are provided to Classified employees who work at least half time (20 hours per week) or more in a regular position and to Certified employees with a .50 FTE or greater contract.

Job Responsibilities
  • Conduct annual inspections of fire alarm panels, initiating devices (smoke/heat detectors, pull stations), and notification appliances (horns, strobes);
  • Install, troubleshoot, and maintain low‑voltage systems, including video and data cabling, door access control systems, analog and digital public address/intercom systems, and auditorium technology;
  • Perform battery load tests, sensitivity testing of smoke detectors, and verification of signal transmission to monitoring stations;
  • Ensure all work aligns with NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code) and local fire marshal requirements;
  • Maintain detailed, accurate logs of all tests using digital reporting software. Generate "Reports of Inspection" required for Fire Marshal audits;
  • Identify and document system failures or code violations. Provide clear technical explanations for necessary repairs or equipment replacement;
  • Work alongside district teams to ensure fire alarm integration with other building systems (e.g., HVAC shutdowns, door release, and IP monitoring);
  • Participate in an on‑call rotation to respond to fire alarm malfunctions or "trouble" signals after hours;
  • Assist team as needed with auditorium equipment, including sound boards, light boards, and lighting components;
  • Execute projects efficiently, and with full adherence to industry and district standards;
  • Review fire and life safety systems with local fire marshal's office and local inspectors to ensure compliance;
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, manuals, and other specifications to determine the layout of cabling and fire systems;
  • Assist team as needed with pulling and routing of CAT5e, CAT6, and future standard cables in new or existing buildings;
  • Assist team as needed with pulling and routing of A/V cables in new and existing buildings;
  • Assist team as needed with PA System installation and troubleshooting;
  • Label all cable runs clearly and accurately and maintain related documentation if applicable;
  • Demonstrate strong cable management skills, including the ability to organize and store cables in a manner that does not interfere with devices, damage the aesthetic of the building or create a safety hazard;
