POSITION SUMMARY
The Ironworker General Foreman will direct and supervise a crew in planning, layout, installation and alignment in accordance with plans, specifications, tolerances, industry standards and codes. They will plan and coordinate the efforts of journeyman and craftsmen under their supervision, motivate the crew to accomplish work safely, productively, correctly and efficiently, and work with or supervise other crafts as requested by project supervision.
Responsibilities- Identify safety hazards employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
- Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices.
- Understand and implement lockout/tag out procedures in a safe manner.
- Understand, train and implement 100% tie off/fall protection.
- Basic understanding of the Mastec Safety Manual and policies.
- Ensure daily equipment inspections are performed by the crew.
- Follow the Mastec planning/JSA process for your crew and provide feedback and training.
- Support or perform additional safety practices such as supervisor audits, craft observations and SLT meetings if requested.
- Report all safety events and near misses to your supervisor.
- Read, understand and follow contract plans and specifications.
- Inspect subordinate's/crew's work for compliance and correct deficiencies.
- Ensure construction procedures are followed and work is in compliance with plans and specifications.
- Produce quality work meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards.
- Complete and submit complete quality paperwork and system sign-offs.
- Understand assigned work and budgets and meet or beat the budgeted man-hours.
- Conduct effective Gang box meetings and ensure crew performance goals are met.
- Examine field conditions to identify and correct problems, inaccuracies and cost-saving measures.
- Follow the Mastec planning process for your level.
- Perform other job specific duties and understand scheduling, material control and productivity tracking systems.
- Perform all essential functions of craft workers under supervision.
- Lead task planning sessions to safely and efficiently carry out assigned work.
- Listen to employee suggestions, complaints and safety concerns and devise actions accordingly.
- Plan and communicate with the warehouse and superintendent to ensure adequate supplies.
- Gain a complete understanding of the scope of work and related project parts.
- Provide on-the-job training to supervised individuals.
- Understand and follow applicable employee laws and Mastec HR policies.
- Complete performance reviews of journeyman and craft workers.
- Review JSAs daily and provide coaching.
- Maintain a good attitude toward work, internal and external personnel.
- Perform all other job-related duties as requested by supervisor.
- Prepare the 1-week schedule as communicated from superintendents.
- Review crew's timecards for correct hours and phase coding.
- 4+ years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- NCCER Certification/License (preferred).
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations.
- Active participation in daily toolbox meetings.
- Set a personal example of safe behavior.
- Read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions and procedure manuals.
- Basic arithmetic and measurement skills.
- Common sense in following written or oral instructions.
- Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy.
- Maintain in-depth relations with team members and supervisors.
- Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
- Maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands and legs fully; lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds; and stoop, kneel and climb.
- Stamina to perform tasks repetitively and continuously for several hour intervals.
- Work in uncontrolled environmental conditions with weather changes.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, odors and noise.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment.
- Move in confined, cluttered and uneven areas.
- Work at heights and comply with all fall-protection requirements.
- Evaluate information based on measurable standards and recognize details in drawings.
- Visualize objects in three dimensions and maintain good balance and vision.
- Coordinate use of eyes, hands and feet.
This position is a full‑time position scheduled to work typically 50 hours per week. Schedule is subject to project requirements.
TravelTravel required up to 90%. Position requires presence directly on the project site with intermittent travel to residence of record.
