Position Summary

The Form Carpenter Helper II is required to perform a variety of tasks including erecting and setting forms for vertical and horizontal concrete structures and site work, per specifications and drawings.

Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret measuring tools such as tape measure, speed square, framing square, etc. to perform tasks accurately.
  • Fully understand Plant North and drawing coordinates.
  • Assist in setting and placement of forms to proper elevations and location, prepare the base and install proper reinforcing.
  • Experience and/or exposure in setting and erecting forms using a wide variety of materials and forming systems for vertical and horizontal concrete forming.
  • Assist in marking, cutting, and assembly of materials, shaping them to prescribed measurements and assembling, fastening with nails, dowel pins or glue.
  • Assist in general carpentry tasks such as building and installing barricades, decks, shelves, and other site needs and duties that may arise.
  • Assist in placing/tying rebar.
  • Attain set standards of accuracy.
  • Perform duties in a safe manner.
Qualifications

Education and Work Experience Requirements

  • 1-2 years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a carpenter helper role.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations.
  • Participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors when on‑site.
  • Set a personal example of safe behaviour.
  • Follow all state, company, client, OSHA, and federal guidelines regarding health and safety.
  • Maintain good house‑keeping by cleaning up work area and jobsite after each task.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Physical Demands
  • Work up to a 12‑hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
  • Use arms, hands, and legs fully; push, pull, and lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb.
  • Stamina to perform repetitive and continuous work for several hour intervals.
  • Constant change in weather and site conditions.
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises.
  • Must wear personal protective equipment including safety‑toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, vest, etc.
  • Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
  • Work at heights and abide by all safety and fall‑protection requirements.
  • Visualise objects in three dimensions from drawings.
  • Keep good balance and work at heights.
  • Have good vision and hearing, with or without correction.
  • Coordinate use of eyes, hands, and feet.
