Department Overview

Housing & Residence Life (HRL) is a department that accommodates approximately 3,000 students and staff across 10 on‑campus living communities, which include traditional residence halls, suite‑style, and apartment‑style housing options. Our department is dedicated to supporting the academic and personal success of our residents. As we continue to grow and evolve, we aim to serve a broad range of students from across the region, including those from rural areas and those who are the first in their families to attend college.

Functions

60% of Time the Maintenance Craftsman, Senior must:

  • Assists in the repair and maintenance of light commercial and/or multi‑unit residential facilities.
  • Climbs ladders, enters crawl spaces, and uses scaffolding in the performance of duties.
  • Lubricates, exchanges filters, flushes equipment, and performs various specific preventive maintenance as directed.
  • Investigates reported deficiencies and services requests and then determines and delivers appropriate remediation within appropriate licensing and budgetary guidelines.
  • Performs and assists repair of light furniture damages.
  • Performs fire safety activities such as testing and maintenance of fire extinguishers and emergency signage and lights.
  • Hangs banners, signage, and wall mounted items.
  • Performs maintenance on window systems, including removal and installation.
  • Performs minor electrical maintenance tasks by troubleshooting and replacing defective components in light fixtures, receptacles, switches, garbage disposals, kitchen exhaust fans, and ranges. Adjusts and installs a variety of residential and light commercial building hardware.
  • Performs minor plumbing/mechanical maintenance tasks by troubleshooting and replacing defective components in plumbing fixtures, faucets, garbage disposals, exhaust fans, supply fans, and small circulating pumps and motors.
  • Repairs drywall, paint surfaces, hard surface materials, various floor coverings, suspended ceilings systems and other general carpentry/maintenance related tasks under the direction of journey level skilled trades staff.
  • Repair and services maintenance and custodial equipment.
  • Moves, transports, stocks materials and tools necessary for the completion of tasks.
  • Performs these duties in a safe and efficient manner.

35% of Time the Maintenance Craftsman, Senior must:

  • Completes residence hall and apartment unit maintenance turns in preparation for new residents and tenants.
  • Completes work orders and TMA data entry logs daily.
  • Assists with the organization of inventory/ shop supplies. These supplies may be stored locally in residential buildings, off site storage facilities, campus designated spaces, and the maintenance warehouse.
  • Functions as a lead worker over other maintenance staff and assists with general related trade duties.
