Custom Application Developer
Full‑time position located in downtown Boise in the IT Services Division. The incumbent will apply technical knowledge to support web applications, client/server applications, and Commercial Off‑The‑Shelf (COTS) products. Residency in Idaho is required. A criminal history background investigation must be completed and employment is contingent upon satisfactory results. This position is not eligible for telework.

- Design, develop, and test software applications: defining architecture, designing UI, writing code, and testing for functionality, performance, and security.
- Analyze and troubleshoot software problems, including investigations of defects, performance issues, and security vulnerabilities.
- Implement security measures such as authentication, authorization, and encryption.
- Collaborate with other engineers to design and implement software architectures.
- Write and maintain software documentation covering functionality, architecture, and usage.
- Work with product managers to gather and understand business requirements.
- Work with quality assurance engineers to develop and execute test plans and analyze results.
- Contribute to continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
- Stay current with latest development technologies and trends.
- Mentor and train junior software engineers.
- Considerable knowledge of data architecture, software architecture, common design patterns, development, and testing practices. Typically gained via at least a bachelor’s degree in information technology or equivalent, or two years of relevant work experience. A master’s degree or at least five years of work experience also satisfies this requirement.
- Considerable knowledge of programming languages and software development tool suites. Typically gained through at least one course of instruction and 18 months of work experience.
- Experience creating, interpreting, and documenting user requirements, typically gained through at least two years of work on multiple development projects.
- Experience analyzing development solutions for cost and benefit, typically gained through at least two years of work.
- Experience coding, testing, and deploying production systems, typically gained through at least two years of work.
- Experience establishing and defining architecture and development standards, typically gained through at least two years of work.
- Experience in Microsoft Dev Ops. At least three years of related experience managing builds, releases, and pipelines.
- Experience in Business Requirement and Design Document Writing. At least three years of related experience writing clear and concise business requirements and design documents.
- Experience in SQL Server or Postgre
SQL. At least three years of related experience writing complex queries and stored procedures. - Experience in Containerization. At least three years of related experience developing applications that target containerization, including Docker and Kubernetes.
