About This Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Development Engineer to join our team at Ericsson and help develop the next generation of WiFi networking hardware.
In this role, you will lead the development of low‑level software powering WiFi access points, routers, and wireless network infrastructure devices, ensuring industry‑leading reliability, performance, and security. You will serve as a technical leader, collaborating closely with hardware, software, and QA teams to architect features, drive WiFi feature implementation, and define best practices for wireless embedded development.
What You Will Do- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of WiFi firmware for wireless access points and networking routers, owning features from concept through production.
- Drive WiFi subsystem bring‑up on new hardware platforms, including antenna tuning, RF calibration, and PHY/MAC layer integration.
- Implement, optimize, and debug IEEE 802.11 protocols (802.11ax/WiFi 6, 802.11be/WiFi
7). - Develop and maintain Linux‑based embedded systems, including bootloaders, kernel modules, and wireless device drivers (mac
80211, cfg
80211, FullMAC/SoftMAC). - Lead the integration and customization of open‑source wireless platforms such as OpenWRT, hostapd, and into production firmware.
- Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and establish engineering standards for the firmware team.
- Analyze and troubleshoot complex issues across hardware, firmware, and software layers – including RF interference, roaming behavior, and throughput regressions.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including hardware, software, QA, and product management to define WiFi feature roadmaps and deliver on time.
- Stay current with emerging WiFi standards (WiFi 7, 6GHz band, WPA3) and apply them proactively to product development.
The candidate must be located in Boise, Idaho. This role is required to work onsite five days a week in the Ericsson office. No immigration or relocation is offered.
The Skills You Bring- At least 5 years’ experience with a strong foundation in programming, predominantly Python and/or
C. - At least 5 years’ working knowledge of Linux operating systems, including basic shell scripting and system‑level concepts.
- Understanding of computer networking fundamentals (e.g., IP/TCP/UDP, Ethernet, routing and switching).
- Exposure to embedded platforms such as ARM‑based SoCs, microcontrollers, or development boards.
- Track record of technical leadership: mentoring engineers, driving architecture decisions, and owning complex features end‑to‑end.
- Strong debugging skills across the full stack – from RF and PHY up through the OS and application layer.
- Eagerness to learn new technologies and grow within a fast‑paced, collaborative engineering environment.
- General networking knowledge to WiFi‑specific technologies (802.11ax/be).
At Ericsson, you will have an outstanding opportunity to use your skills and imagination to push the boundaries of what is possible. You’ll be challenged, but you won’t be alone. You’ll be joining a team of diverse innovators, all driven to go beyond the status quo to craft what comes next.
