Summary
This position is located in a National Interagency Support Cache (NISC) on a Region 2 Forest Service unit. The role involves receiving, storing, repairing, refurbishing, and shipping supplies, equipment, and materials for the Fire Program.
Responsibilities- Serve as a NISC fleet manager coordinating with GSA and USDA Fleet Management Specialists on vehicle and equipment replacement, servicing, and repair policies.
- Consolidate monthly vehicle reports and cost coding for fire vehicles and submit information to fleet management personnel.
- Manage the transportation fleet used to deliver emergency equipment and supplies, including maintenance, inspection, and record keeping for vehicles such as semi‑trailers, semi‑trucks, cargo vans, ¾‑ton pickup trucks, and rental vehicles.
- Conduct spot, cyclic, and annual inventories of stock, perform causative research, and report reasons for overages, shortages, or wrong locations.
- Pack and ship special‑operation materials or equipment, including large, heavy, or sensitive items.
- Operate electric, gasoline, and propane powered forklift trucks capable of lifting up to 6,000 pounds to a height of 144 inches.
- Train and certify employees in safe operation of forklifts and other material‑handling devices.
- U.S. Citizen or National.
- Male applicants born after 12‑31‑59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
- Successful completion of background investigation and fingerprint check.
- Ability to pass E‑Verify employment verification check.
- Probationary period of one year with evaluation of fitness and public‑interest impact.
- Drug testing: pre‑employment and random drug tests required.
- Valid driver’s license and, within one year of employment, a Class A commercial driver’s license, HAZMAT certification, and OSHA‑approved forklift operator certification.
