The Ada County Sheriffs Office is seeking a detail‑oriented and reliable Warehouse Specialist to join our team. In this role you will be responsible for overseeing the receipt, storage, and distribution of supplies, equipment and materials essential to daily jail operations. This position supports facility operations and requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a secure, fast‑paced environment.
EssentialFunctions
- Receive orders, load and unload delivery trucks, verify physical counts to match delivery documents, document deliveries, and deliver orders to the appropriate area or customers.
- Track back orders ensuring delivery, and communicate with Finance to ensure payment for received undamaged items.
- Maintain inventory of stocked items with par levels, ensuring accurate accounting for all purchases and products.
- Supervise inmate workers.
- Recommend types of items stocked based on customer needs and appropriate supply levels.
- Ensure up‑to‑date documentation is maintained within the computer‑based inventory management system.
- Operate forklifts, lift trucks, trash compactor, and cardboard compactor.
- Work with vendors to order supplies, equipment and other items; assist with budgeting, research products, solicit bids and maintain equipment; keep warehouse and work areas clean and organized.
- Procure supplies and equipment, including creating and forwarding purchase order requests for warehouse stock.
- Remove daily trash and recyclables from kitchen and jail.
- Organize and transport dry goods between the jail and offsite storage locations.
- Keep supervisor informed of relevant information and promptly report any observation or situation that could impact safety and security to supervisor or on‑duty sergeant.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Accredited high school diploma or GED required.
- Knowledge and/or experience working in a warehouse setting preferred.
- Knowledge of jail/corrections security and safety procedures preferred.
- Knowledge of jail/correctional functions to ensure equipment and supplies are kept current and readily available preferred.
- Knowledge of safety requirements for warehouse operations; safety procedures when operating forklifts, lift trucks and other types of transport.
- Knowledge of cleaning procedures and cleaning chemicals.
- Knowledge of computers and other office equipment (fax machines, copiers and telephones).
- Ability to organize assignments and projects.
- Ability to work effectively with co‑workers and managers.
- Ability to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, organizational guidelines and appropriations.
- Ability to maintain good relationships with vendors and county officials.
- Ability to clearly write specifications on a variety of products and services.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Must appear before an oral board and complete a polygraph and background investigation prior to hire.
- Incumbent must possess a valid driver’s license.
- This position is safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.
