VACANCY
:
The Valley View Public School District is seeking an individual to fill a full‑time Bilingual Special Education Paraprofessional position for the 2026/2027 school year.
JOB SUMMARY
:
Under the direct supervision of a licensed staff member, the paraprofessional assists in the educational, functional, and social development of students with disabilities across settings. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assists and guides students with academic tasks and functional skills as assigned by teacher/clinician.
  • Supervises and assists students with transitions in classroom and educational settings, during structured and unstructured activities indicated by the Individual Education Plan, both within and outside of the school building.
  • Provides academic, functional, and behavioral support to students in accordance with IEPs and related support plans.
  • Assists with communication, scheduling, and adaptations of curriculum to meet student needs.
  • Works with students individually or in small groups to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Assists with record‑keeping to track student progress.
  • Implements classroom management strategies to ensure student safety and engagement.
  • Constructs, copies, distributes, and uses educational materials as directed.
  • Applies all rules and procedures governing safety protocols and methods of assistance for students.
  • Collaborates with teachers and staff to coordinate instructional plans and prepare activities.
  • Uses computers, technology, assistive devices, and equipment for student support; supports students in using these tools.
  • Attends staff meetings and professional development as required.
  • Assists students with assistive devices, supportive technology, and access to facilities.
  • Implements therapeutic regimens such as behavior modification and sensory breaks under supervision of special education personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION / LICENSURE
  • Minimum valid Illinois Professional Educator License with stipulations, endorsed for Paraprofessional Educator.
  • Minimum HS Diploma or equivalent with 30 hours of college coursework.
OTHER

  • Ability to handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.
  • Academic proficiency in mathematics and language arts to support grade‑level content.
  • Ability to follow instructions given orally or in writing.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students, employees, and others.
  • Knowledge of curriculum materials & instructional techniques desirable.
  • Professionalism as a student role model and in colleagues' duties.
  • Bilingual proficiency in speaking and writing in designated language for translation and interpretation.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

The position may require participation in training, certification, and use of de‑escalation and physical management methods within a school or district environment.

  • Communicates verbally, sees, and hears regularly.
  • Pulls, pushes, ambulates, and performs tasks from standing and seated positions; uses fine motor skills during normal duties.
  • Occasionally stoops, kneels, crouches, and lifts up to 25 pounds.
  • Maneuvers and physically assists students as necessary.
  • Assists with activities of daily living, including toileting, diapering, feeding, and lifting of students when required by IEP.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and work year: 181 days in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between the Valley View Council and the Board of Education. Physical exam and negative Tuberculosis test required. FLSA Non‑Exempt.

EVALUATION

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
