Overview

The Director II, EHS promotes a positive safety culture while complying with SGWS EHS standards. Responsibilities include training, coaching, audits, risk assessments, data reporting, compliance, and supporting site management.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Promote an injury‑free culture across the division to reduce EHS risks.
  • Assure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety, occupational health and environmental regulations.
  • Assess work areas and conduct job hazard analysis to identify and correct unsafe conditions.
  • Conduct EHS training and implement proactive programs to mitigate employee injuries and illnesses.
  • Make OSHA recordability determinations and participate as an active member of workers' compensation and incident investigation teams.
  • Investigate and evaluate root causes for occupational injuries, incidents, and near misses.
  • Facilitate the Division Safety Committee and ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Conduct facility safety observations and inspections on a frequent basis.
  • Maintain understanding of business processes and functional interdependencies, escalating risks as needed.
Additional Primary Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate advanced understanding of online data management tools and the OSHA 300 log/injury records process.
  • Work with Facilities and Operations teams to incorporate EHS safeguards during technology implementation.
  • Work with Operations Fleet Safety and DOT compliance teams to ensure compliance with U.S. Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Coordinate deployment of environmental procedures such as Haz Mat response, SPCC, Tier II, and other regulatory compliance.
  • Visit job sites to monitor performance and improve safety outcomes.
  • Handle unexpected challenges in a professional and calm manner.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • BS/BA in Safety, Health, or related science or equivalent experience (8‑10 years).
  • Hold or be willing to obtain EHS credentials such as CSP, ASP, CIH, CHMM, OHST, CHST, or CSHM within 3 years.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA regulations and incident investigation/EHS training experience.
  • Experience in emergency response and risk mitigation.
  • Ability to interpret and lead OSHA and federal regulation responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of warehouse equipment operation and requirement for Power Industrial Equipment (PIT) certification within 1 year.
  • First Aid, CPR & AED trained or ability to complete within 1 year.
  • Preferred experience in food & beverage, distribution operations, or fast‑paced environment.
  • Knowledge of Worker's Compensation practices and reporting.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and EHS data management systems such as Intelex, Gensuite, Eneblon.
Physical Demands
  • Long periods of sitting and keyboarding.
  • Occasional walking, bending, reaching, standing, and stooping.
  • May require lifting or carrying up to 20 lbs.
