Director, Global Project Management

Location:

Bolingbrook, IL.

The Director of Global Project Management is responsible for ensuring that New Product Development projects are executed effectively and efficiently and meet organizational goals and requirements. The Director oversees the Project Managers, develops and maintains PM methodologies, policies, standards, and tools, and works with other department leaders to define, prioritize, and develop projects and programs. The Director is responsible for the development of the departmental budget and ensuring projects remain on track regarding scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and direct the project management team, ensuring effective planning, execution, and delivery of multiple projects, meeting quality standards and customer expectations.
  • Oversee and manage multiple projects, controlling interdependencies, communicating deliverables, risks, and issues, and monitoring key performance indicators.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Aftermarket Service, Quality, Finance, Product Management, Sales, and Marketing) to ensure alignment and successful outcomes.
  • Support new product development projects by providing project management expertise and aligning with strategic goals.
  • Facilitate regular project status updates to senior management and stakeholders for transparency and effective communication.
  • Mentor and develop project managers through ongoing support and performance reviews.
  • Define the Project Management approach, create and implement common methodologies, standards, and tools.
  • Help define business strategies and organizational policies to coordinate multiple major projects and initiatives.
  • Prepare written documentation of processes, material requirements, test results, and project activities; revise G&W project management standards as needed.
  • Work with the team to develop process improvements, lessons learned, and continuous improvement actions.
  • Drive schedule, scope, budget, staffing, and quality objectives, ensuring projects stay on track and return on investment.
  • Manage project risks through identification, prioritization, and mitigation, including critical path analyses.
  • Measure project performance using tools and techniques, taking corrective actions and communicating results.
  • Coordinate and assess resource needs, working with management to secure appropriate staffing.
  • Ensure completion of Product Development Stage Gate and other company process requirements.
  • Document and report on post‑product launch and benefit realization activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Oversee hiring, performance appraisal, training, development, and disciplinary actions.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related field (Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred).
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • At least 8 years of management experience, including:
  • —At least 8 years of project management experience in a highly technical product development role.
  • —At least 3 years of management experience.
  • —Preferred experience developing Distribution or Transmission power equipment, Protective relays, or Custom engineered industrial products.
  • Strong understanding of good development engineering processes such as lean product development, APQP, Design for Manufacturing (DFM)/Assembly (DFA)/Excellence (DFX), Six Sigma, Lean concepts, and stage gate.
  • Experience with industry quality actions such as PPAP and SPC.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex, highly technical product development projects and teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully complete projects with sound planning and execution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organization, facilitation, and negotiation skills.
  • Ownership mentality, effective time management.
  • Ability to understand technical issues and communicate impact to stakeholders.
  • Flexibility in dealing with changing priorities and managing multiple projects.
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to travel within and outside the USA.
