Operations Manager - Transportation (Supply Chain/Logistics)
$10,000 Sign-on Bonus.
Salary: $85,600 – $115,600 (bonus eligible based on individual and location performance).
Schedule: Monday 9:00 AM – 7:00 PM;
Tuesday‑Friday 12:00 PM – 10:00 PM.
Position Summary: Lead high‑performance teams in a dynamic operational environment. Develop forward‑looking plans, execute them, manage resources to meet or exceed the site financial operating plan, and maintain an incident‑free safety culture.
Major Responsibilities People- Train, develop, and retain quality supervisors and associates.
- Ensure all team members are competent and understand how their work supports customer objectives.
- Foster effective two‑way communication and recognize excellence.
- Build strong relationships with associates, customers, and supporting departments.
- Meet or exceed all customer key performance metrics.
- Interact daily with local customers to understand existing and emerging needs.
- Lead the team in identifying operational improvements (route optimization, carrier selection, backhauls, trailer loading).
- Collaborate with other Penske sites to share best practices and leverage resources.
- Develop and execute the annual financial and operating plan.
- Meet or exceed business plan targets and adjust operating metrics and P&L as needed.
- Ensure accurate and timely customer billings and associate payroll; validate payables, intercompany charges, and other P&L activities.
- Lead a culture of safety by example.
- Implement and assess continuous improvement plans to reduce accidents and injuries.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, company policies, and procedures.
- Coach through safety observations and proactively correct unsafe conditions.
- Identify and pursue continuous improvement opportunities.
- Track and record value delivered to customers.
- Secure profitable business opportunities for both customers and Penske.
- Utilize metrics to maximize customer efficiencies and achieve cost savings.
- Improve fleet and equipment utilization, maintenance availability, and fuel efficiency.
- Contribute to equipment specifications during startup and renewal.
- Develop relationships with local PTL district and equipment vendors.
- Complete other projects and tasks as assigned.
- 4 – 6 years of related functional experience.
- 3+ years of managerial or supervisory experience with DOT‑regulated positions.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
- Strong interpersonal skills: ability to build rapport with associates and external customers.
- Excellent time‑management and organizational skills.
- Independent problem‑solving and decision‑making ability.
- Experience developing and executing annual financial operating plans.
- Track record of driving process improvement and leading change.
- Ownership and sense of urgency in running operations.
- Strong written and oral communication; ability to present and listen actively.
- Reliable full attendance required.
- Willingness to travel as needed and to comply with background and drug screening requirements.
- Read, communicate verbally or in writing, and analyze information.
- Stand, walk, sit, use hands to touch/handle/feel, and reach with arms.
- Occasionally lift or move up to 25 lbs (12 kg).
- Maintain close, distance, peripheral vision and depth perception; adjust focus as needed.
