Located out of our Bolingbrook location, this position is responsible for promoting safety by teaching safe and proper driving and operator techniques for individuals who operate powered industrial equipment, aerial equipment, rail movers, construction equipment, overhead cranes and other equipment as requested.

This Operator Training Instructor will cover mainly Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin but also will travel to the Louisville, Indianapolis, and Southwestern Ohio areas to provide training to customers. Position

responsibilities
  • Organize and facilitate classes for operator training (may be at customer site or at our training facility).
  • Organize and facilitate classes for those who train other operators (Train the Trainer). Classes may be at customer site or at our training facility.
  • Develop and implement classes that are needed based on our customers’ needs, as well as our employees.
  • Must be well versed on forklifts, aerial lifts, cranes, and other material handling equipment.
  • Ensure we are delivering the best possible quality in our training courses, always promoting safety, keeping the students engaged during class.
  • Perform as our Lift Truck Safety Consultant for internal and external customers.
  • Stay current on all OSHA regulations as regards powered industrial equipment or construction equipment – attend schools as available, read OSHA publications.
  • Gather feedback from students, use feedback to make improvements as appropriate.
  • Document student results for education tracking, determine whether each student passes or fails, and award Operator’s License to those who pass.
  • Promote Operator Training through various means that could include social media, email and phone calls – increasing revenues and safety at the same time.
  • Sell safety and training products.
  • Follow up on training leads forwarded by sales reps or other sources.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork related to leads, billing, proposals, and class documentation.
  • Update Wolter computer records to document customer calls, completed classes, prospects, etc.
  • Pass general sales leads you might learn about on to appropriate sales team.
  • Attend trade shows, representing Wolter – be available for speaking / seminars as needed.
  • Projects as assigned by Operator Training Manager.
Essential skills and experience
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with ability to keep students engaged in safety.
  • Commitment to company vision and mission.
  • Strong computer proficiency.
  • In depth knowledge of powered industrial equipment and construction equipment.
  • Expert knowledge of OSHA regulations as they relate to industrial powered equipment and our industry.
  • Current certification for driving powered industrial equipment.
  • Current valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Nonessential skills and experience
  • Professional certification in Safety (such as NASP and WSO)
  • Awareness of lean business principles
Pay Structure:
Base Salary + Commission Physical demands and work environment
  • Physical demands:
    Employee is required to frequently stand, walk, talk, listen, and use feet to operate machinery. Employee is required to occasionally use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, including computer, presentation equipment, and other office equipment. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work environment:
    The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to noisier shop environments and may be exposed to unusual environments at customer sites. When performing duties of this job, it is a requirement to wear Personal Protective Equipment whenever appropriate.
