Logistics Planner Opportunity

Compensation: $24.03 / hr + monthly bonus

Location:

Hybrid, flexibility for in-office meetings/when called upon (Office located at 1001 Bluff Rd, Romeoville, IL 60446)

Schedule/Shift: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Job purpose:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and strategic logistics planner to join our high-volume contract team. This role will focus specifically on managing and expanding the OTR truckload segment of our transportation business. All OTR freight is contractually awarded to a select group of core carriers.

The ideal candidate will have hands‑on OTR logistics experience and be adept at carrier management, performance tracking, and strategic planning to ensure efficient execution and continued growth of our over the road network.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Plan, schedule, and oversee daily OTR freight operations to ensure on‑time pick‑up and delivery.
  • Manage relationships with core OTR carriers, monitoring performance and holding partners accountable to service‑level agreements.
  • Track and analyze carrier performance metrics (on‑time delivery, tender acceptance, capacity utilization, and cost control).
  • Collaborate with internal teams (account management, customer service, and warehouse operations) to proactively resolve service disruptions or exceptions.
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize cost savings while maintaining high service levels.
  • Support contract negotiations and assist in building stronger long‑term partnerships with carriers.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and DOT regulations as well as company policies.
  • Maintain accurate shipment and carrier information in the transportation management system (TMS).
  • Provide problem‑solving support for escalated service issues or capacity challenges.
  • Identify network inefficiencies and contribute recommendations for continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of IMDL operations, carrier networks, and rail systems
  • Proven ability to manage vendor relationships and hold providers accountable
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and performance metrics

Education and/or experience required:

  • High school diploma required with previous logistics experience.
  • 4 year college degree preferred but not mandatory

Language skills sets:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.

Mathematical skills:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning ability:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to determine "root cause" of problem and determine corrective action.

Computer skills:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must have knowledge of business operating systems, internet software, word processing, and spreadsheet software.

Physical demands:

  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Must be able to activate phone systems utilizing keyboards and buttons.
  • Must be articulate and comfortable speaking in front of others.
  • Regularly works in an indoor/office environment and required to sit and/or use repetitive hand motion.
  • Frequently required to talk, hear, stand and walk.
  • Must be able to work in excess of continuous 8 hours when required.
