Social Work - Field Director Faculty (Education) Summary/Objective
Faculty in this role are to provide leadership and administration of the Social Work (BSW) Programs Field Education component, including teaching undergraduate courses for the major, maintaining the accreditation of the program, and provision of oversight of the curriculum related to the field work and placement of students of the social work program. In addition to course instruction and work with students in their progress towards graduation, faculty are expected to integrate an evangelical Christian worldview into their work with students, in the classroom and within the department.
EssentialJob Duties
- Teach a minimum of 18 hours of undergraduate credit‑hour load per academic year in their discipline or field (typically, 9 hours per semester, with three hours of load release per semester for their program field duties)
- Follow the expectations for their position as outlined in the most recent SBU Faculty Handbook
- Advise students in their academic progress and mentoring them towards possible future professional or educational choices
- Perform the activities outlined in the SBU Faculty Guidelines for the following, but not limited to: attendance in the teaching of the course (or as defined for on‑line coursework), office hours, committee service, student evaluation, and maintaining knowledge of the academic requirements for students of the University
- Ensure a positive learning environment for students and colleagues
- Work cooperatively with the Social Work Program Director in carrying out the goals of the program
- Insure compliance with accreditation processes of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), specifically the field work, sites, and supervision
- Develop BSW field policies and procedures, update and maintain field polices as outlined in the BSW Field Manual
- Represent the Social Work program in the community and to professional organizations
- Participate in academic processions, Faculty Assemblies, and other university‑wide meetings
- Participate in the work of the behavioral sciences department through recruiting, retention, assessments, department meetings and administrative responsibilities
- Sets an example of a Christian lifestyle for the SBU community
- Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Southwest Baptist Universitys Principles and Expectations
- And any other duties as assigned, by their division head or dean
None required, but may serve as faculty advisor to student groups
Position Requirements Required- Masters of Social Work (MSW) degree
- A minimum of two years of practice experience post‑MSW degree
- Evidence of mastery of the subject(s) to be taught, by previous student evaluations, supervisors evaluation, or professional development and/or certifications within the field
- Committed evangelical Christian and active church member
- Desire to instill Christian values through their teaching and personal example
- Ability to work with a diverse group of students, other faculty, and administrators in an effective manner
- Ability to use technology for the delivery of instruction and general campus communication
- And an ability to communicate, both in oral and written forms, across a wide constituency both within and outside the university setting
- Current license in the practice of social work (LMSW or LCSW LCSW preferred)
- Knowledge of or experience in writing CSWE accreditation processes or experience in a CSWE accredited program
- Committed Southern Baptist affiliation
- Previous experience in higher education and an accredited social work program
- Knowledge of online instruction and course development
- Doctorate degree, or ABD may be considered, in the academic discipline or field
- The work environment is a typical office suite setting
- The typical classroom is a setting with students and general equipment found for instruction
- And may involve disruptions or interruptions during the day from students, faculty or staff
- The common physical functions necessary for this position would be use of a computer and the general activities involved with student instruction, such as, frequently engaging students in a classroom setting and is able communicating accurate information and ideas in these situations
- Occasionally move about the office to access file cabinets, interact with faculty, etc.
- Frequent, daily operation of a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as calculator, copy machine and computer printer
- May be necessary to operate a motor vehicle on behalf of university business, typical physical functions as required for that activity

- Must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 50% of the time
- Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle and get in and out of the vehicle frequently during field visits
