The positions contained in this Aquatics job description may be responsible to oversee the aquatic complex, ensuring the safety of the patrons in the swimming area. Lifeguard, coach, and instructor positions require certification and qualifications.
LIFEGUARD ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Monitor activities in swimming areas to prevent accidents and provide assistance to swimmers:
Cautions swimmers regarding unsafe actions. - Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning and administers first aid.
- Maintain order in swimming areas.
- Inspect facilities for cleanliness.
- Clean and refill swimming pool.
- Determine chlorine content and pH value of water, using water testing kit.
- May conduct or officiate at swimming meets.
- May give swimming instructions
- Maintain an acceptable appearance at all times, both in uniform and in hygiene.
- Set up and prepare for parties.
- Stock all soda machines.
- Responsible for calling emergency services as needed.
- Receive, count, balance and transport deposits of all cash receipts to the Front Desk when responsible for concessions.
- Attend staff meetings and required training.
- Perform special projects as assigned by the Aquatics Director.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
- Perform the duties and responsibilities of a Lifeguard.
- Supervise other Lifeguards on duty.
- Assume the duties and responsibilities of the Director in the Director’s absence.
- Inspect pool for safety issues.
- Test pool chemicals and record levels.
- Monitor filter levels and backwash pools as needed.
- Perform routine checks of the mechanical room.
- Assist with recruiting, hiring, and training pool personnel.
- Perform performance evaluations and make recommended actions
- Must have previous swim team experience.
- Leads a group of individuals in competitive swimming during practices, swim meets and competition meets.
- Attend a two (2) hour meeting with the district swim team coordinator and the surrounding area swim teach coaches.
- Travel to and from swim meet events.
- Records laps at meets.
- Prepares rosters.
- Organizes and supervises a two (2) hour swim team pool party.
- Prepares and manages the swim team entry cards.
- Relays information to the participant as well as to their guardian involving swim team events, dates and times.
- Understand and apply facility rules and regulations.
- Must perform all instructor responsibilities and show instructor qualities adequately in and out of the water.
- Lead a group of various aged patrons in a 30-minute swim lesson session.
- Must follow Red Cross swim less on guidelines.
- Must relay information to the participant as well as to their guardian regarding their progress.
- Must complete a two (2) hour swim lesson instructor course.
- Work independently and exercise initiative and judgment in the planning and execution of tasks assigned.
- Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and effective interpersonal skills at all times.
- Demonstrated ability to support and function in team environment
- Prepare and maintain records with a high level of detail and accuracy.
- Reliability and dependability.
- Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner
- Ability to perform tasks involving high levels of cognitive function and judgment
- Not mentally or physically impaired from any cause that can adversely affect ability to safely and competently perform the duties of the position

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING
- Current High School student or graduate.
- Must be at least 15 years of age.
- Successful completion of Certified Lifeguarding classes.
- One year experience as a cashier or in handling money desired (for Concessions).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES FOR LIFEGUARDS, COACHES, AND INSTRUCTORS
- Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail amidst a multitask, changing priority environment.
- Work well with the general public and children specifically.
- Must be a strong swimmer.
- Knowledge of swimming techniques.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a pool setting.
- Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Hold and grip objects.
- Frequent sitting but may involve walking or standing when working Concessions.
