Summary

Assist students with basic classroom work, including computers, language arts, math and research. Assist classroom teacher with preparing classroom work as needed. Support student in general and special education classroom.

Education and Related Work Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • No experience required; experience preferred in:
    Working with children.

Materials and Equipment Operating Knowledge
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and online resources
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, email, etc.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide support to special education students in the regular and special education classrooms. Supports may include:
    • Assisting students by adapting work
    • Monitoring and enforcing social and acceptable behavior
    • Implementing health care plans, toileting assistant, academic support, etc.
    • Assisting children in the cafeteria, on the bus, and at other times
    • Assisting in crisis situations involving physically aggressive students, including restraining and documentation
    • Using CPI training and understanding behavior management rules for behavior students
    • Implementing specialized therapy programs
    • Leaning, bending, reaching, or over work space to give proximity and support for a child working
  • Assist students with classroom activities. Assist with curriculum instructional delivery to both individual and small groups to ensure mastery of subjects.
  • Assist teacher(s) with grading, attendance and instructional centers, etc. Assist in preparing materials; laminating, copying, filing, etc.
  • Mentor, support and assist students with a variety of abilities and disabilities to become competent, independent adults.
  • Supervise and monitor students during playground, lunchroom, field trips, passing periods, classroom activities, etc. Support eloping students by keeping them within 3-5 feet to ensure safety.
  • Assist injured or sick students to health room.
  • Cover classroom for short periods (i.e. up to 30 minutes) when the teacher is called out of the classroom for staff meetings or other reasons.
  • Assist with assessment testing and monitoring of student performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    No special vision requirements. Noise level typically moderate to loud. The work environment may include wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold or heat, risk of electrical shock, explosives, radiation, vibration.
