Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a related discipline. ABDs will not be considered. A J.D. is not sufficient.
Preferred qualifications:
Generalist experience teaching a variety of core courses in the discipline and an appropriate record of scholarship.
The Department of Government and Justice Studies (GJS) has over 900 undergraduate majors in criminal justice and political science and over 60 graduate students in political science and public administration. It has more than 30 full‑time faculty who are at the forefront of their diverse areas of expertise and are amongst the most honored teachers at Appalachian State University. The teaching load is 3 courses per semester for faculty with an active research agenda. Teaching assignments will be predominantly in‑person classes to serve Appalachian State’s Boone Campus; however, opportunities for instruction at App State’s Hickory campus or online instruction may be available depending on program need.
Other duties include participation in departmental meetings, committee service, and contribution to research and scholarship.
