Minimum Qualifications
  • Earned Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) by the time of appointment, committed to excellence in teaching compatible with the BCHS mission.
  • MSN or DNP program enrollment eligible if all degree requirements will be completed by the date of appointment.
Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required)
  • Full-time clinical faculty for the undergraduate BSN program.
  • One-year or more of full-time teaching in an accredited nursing program.
  • Experience in clinical and/or didactic instruction and expertise in adult health, mental health, and/or care of women & children.
License/Certification Required
  • Licensure as a registered nurse in good standing in North Carolina or a compact state; meeting the North Carolina Board of Nursing’s requirements for Nurse Educators.
Description of the Department or Unit

Department of Nursing has around 560 students, which includes the pre-licensure BSN, the online RN to BSN, and the online MSN programs with a concentration in nursing education. The BSN, RN to BSN, and MSN programs are fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The Department is in the process of developing a new DNP Nurse Practitioner program to begin in fall of 2026.

Appalachian State University’s Beaver College of Health Sciences (BCHS) is transforming the health and quality of lives of individuals, families, and communities through inclusive practices, interprofessional collaboration, and innovation in teaching, scholarship, service, and clinical outreach. The BCHS supports over 3,800 students in nine undergraduate and nine graduate degree programs, organized into six academic departments. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teaching in the classroom, clinical settings, simulation, or online in any of the degree programs offered in the Department of Nursing.
  • Supervision of capstone projects.
  • Engaging in scholarly, creative activities that promote professional growth and enhance teaching/professional competence.
  • Integration of evidence-based practices in the classroom and clinical settings.
  • Service on committees and participation in official activities of the Department, College, and University, among others.
Type of Position

Full Time;
Appointment Type 1.0; 9 months per year.
