The department is especially interested in candidates with professional experience and teaching interests in the area of Business Communications.

License/Certification Required N/ADescription of the Department or Unit The Department of Media, Career Studies, and Leadership Development is one of five departments in the Reich College of Education, offering programs that prepare students for employment in a wide variety of teaching, administrative, and service roles, as well as employment or career advancement in business and industry. The department includes Career and Technical Education, Organizational Leadership & Learning, and Media, Technology and Learning Design programs.

The department serves students at the main campus in Boone and the new Hickory campus, in addition to App State Online and Flight Path students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Teach Business Communications, Personal Money Management, Leadership Minor courses, and CTE teacher education courses, as needed.

Serve on department, college, and university committees.

Primary teaching duties will be in-person classes in Boone and/or Hickory.

Teaching responsibilities will include four courses per semester. In-person and online teaching is expected.

Suggested Salary Range Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Qualifications . ABD DescriptionABD with reduction in rank and salary: ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor.

The candidate’s salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.
