Location: Boone, North Carolina | Full-Time | Exempt

As the System Director of Care Management at UNC Health Appalachian, you'll provide system-wide leadership and operational oversight for care coordination services across all care settings. Compensation: Starts at $112,394 annually and commensurate with education, experience, licensure, and internal equity

What You'll Do as System Director of Care Management
  • Provide operational leadership and strategic direction for system-wide care management and care coordination services.
  • Ensure safe, effective, and high-quality patient care across all locations and levels of care.
  • Lead and manage clinical and ancillary teams, including staffing, performance management, and professional development.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient flow, utilization management, and transitions of care.
  • Oversee fiscal management, including budgeting, resource allocation, and operational efficiency.
  • Drive quality improvement initiatives to achieve top-decile outcomes in patient experience, quality, and safety.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, ethical practice, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, staff, physicians, leadership, and community partners.
  • Respond to operational issues and emergencies with sound judgment and timely decision-making.
  • Promote a healthy, collaborative work environment grounded in respect, professionalism, and teamwork.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
  • Graduate of a four-year degree program
  • Licensed or registered healthcare professional (e.g., RN, radiology technologist, laboratory technologist, pharmacist)
  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field required (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Experience
  • Five (5) or more years of progressive leadership experience in a hospital or health system setting required
  • Demonstrated experience leading a service line, including: fiscal and budget management, human capital management and workforce planning, strategic planning and service line development, oversight of multiple clinical areas, regulatory and accreditation compliance
  • Care Management & Registered Nurse experience preferred
Licensure & Certifications
  • Active, unrestricted professional license related to discipline (e.g., RN license if applicable), maintained throughout employment
  • Registered Nurse license preferred
