This position is responsible for the analysis, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of all activities related to underground campus utilities and related building steam and heating systems. The role will also initiate repairs or replacements as necessary to upgrade campus systems and minimize energy losses.
Essential Job Functions- Providing operation, maintenance, repair, and management of nuclear reactor, boiler, electrical, and/or steam turbine driven chillers, cooling towers, and auxiliary equipment.
- Operating generators, auxiliary pumping equipment, turbines, and other power plant equipment; monitoring systems for normal operating conditions.
- Regulating equipment operations and responding to system abnormalities, diagnosing causes, and taking corrective action for equipment such as boilers, air conditioning condensers, fan coil units, pumps, motors, compressors, and industrial mechanical systems.
- Performing preventive maintenance tasks including oil changes, belt changes, seal replacements, control calibrations, pressure adjustments, and filter replacements.
- Technical knowledge in the maintenance and operation of campus steam and condensate systems, especially in confined spaces, with strict OHSA safety procedures.
- Expertise in pipe fitting, pipe welding, plumbing, and electrical trade skills.
- Ability to perform routine tasks and assignments with industry standards and safety requirements.
- Problem‑solving skills for identifying and troubleshooting equipment issues.
- Compliance with safety and environmental practices, including use of protective equipment and post‑emergency procedures.
- Strong communication skills to listen, ask questions, and collaborate with coworkers.
- At least two years of prior experience in Facilities Maintenance with equipment such as boilers, heat exchangers, pumps, motors, HVAC, and direct digital control systems.
- Knowledge of steam thermodynamics and compressible fluid flow.
- Physical strength to handle heavy equipment, including lifting 50–100 pounds.
- Limited access spaces, extreme heat or cold, and exposure to dust and dirt.
- Heavy lifting in excess of 50–100 pounds on an occasional basis.
Type of Position:
Permanent Full‑Time (1.0 appointment).
Work Schedule:
1st shift 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Must be available during university emergencies and adverse weather. Salary Range: $41,736 – $45,240.
