Watauga County Sanitation Department is accepting applications for the position of Equipment Operator I. The role performs intermediate semi‑skilled work operating a vehicle in the disposal of solid waste, transfer of refuse, debris and recyclables from collection sites, and related work as required.

• Operate a truck and/or motorized equipment; ensure proper completion of assigned work and adequate safety precautions; and provide proper equipment maintenance.
• Maintain mileage and fuel records, and report violations of sanitation ordinances when required.

• General knowledge of the operation and servicing of trucks and heavy motorized equipment.
• Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation.
• Thorough knowledge of safe driving practices and occupational hazards.
• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience in the operation of a truck and heavy equipment.
• Possession of a valid North Carolina Class B CDL license is preferred.
