Student Minister (Youth and College)

Job Description

The student minister will, in Christian love, reach out and connect with the youth, college and families in our church and community sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Minister will develop and provide leadership in the implementation of comprehensive educational ministries to disciple children from 7th grade through college to grow closer to JESUS CHRIST, as well as being an available resource for the parents and guardians as they raise and nurture their youth and young adults.

Negotiable with experience

Responsibilities

1. Collaborate with Staff:

  • Collaborate with other staff members to coordinate all youth and college programs.
  • Aid in curriculum selection, training, and scheduling for various program leaders.
  • Attend weekly meetings, and work side by side with other staff members with a positive servant’s heart.
  • Maintain current records and databases for Volunteer contact information, applications, and background checks.
  • Check and promptly respond to emails, voicemails and mail received.
  • Ensure thorough and efficient communication with parents regarding updates, curriculum, newsletters, emails, flyers, and social media.

2. Supervise Biblical Educational Programs:

  • Coordinate Youth Sunday School classes, teach Sunday School as needed and work with Sunday School director.
  • Director of Youth Committee (Nominated leaders by nominating committee or pastor to be on committee to help lead, assist, and plan activities).
  • Sunday evening Bible study groups.
  • Wednesday night student ministry worship.
  • Perform other duties as needed and as requested by the Pastor and not limited to above list.

3. Plan and Implement DNOW:

  • Leader of DNOW.
  • Promote DNOW at Gaston Baptist Church and to local communities.
  • Aid in curriculum selection, training, and scheduling for various program leaders.
  • Collaborate with the Pastor to follow up with families post-DNOW.

4. Coordinate Off-Site

Activities:

  • Plan at least 2 offsite activities per quarter.
  • Plan and oversee activities like summer camps and retreats held away from the church.
  • Recruit volunteers to attend camp with youth.
  • Prepare annual budgets for the Youth and College Ministry.
  • Assist program leaders in budget requests.
  • Coordinate purchasing of materials, supplies, equipment, and furnishings.
  • Be prepared to meet with the finance committee for reconciliation of expenses allotted to the budget as needed.
  • Share budget with Youth Committee.
  • Plan fundraisers to offset costs of camps, etc.

6. Outreach and Family Engagement:

  • Emphasize personal witnessing and visitation with families of youth and college students.
  • Stay in contact with parents on events, summer camps, mission trips and projects. Communication with parents is key for the younger students being able to participate.
  • Active in local schools and park and recreation programs in community. Examples:
    Attend sporting events, band competitions and concerts, speak at FCA meetings, and other various extracurricular activities of students. Use time at these events to build relationships with parents(especially those who children attend but parents do not).
  • Local mission projects (visiting nursing homes, homebound members, letters to families inviting them to church and any other Christ driven ministries to show the community the love of Jesus).
  • Utilize Church social media pages to promote student ministry.

7. Counseling and Support:

  • Provide guidance, understanding, and spiritual counseling for students and families as needed.

8. Committee Involvement:

  • Serve as an ex-officio member of the Church Youth Committee and relevant church committees related to Student ministry (both high school and college).

9. Other Duties:

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Pastor.
