Job Overview
This position involves being a part of the Engineering team that develops complex embedded hardware products in the area of Teleprotection and communications for the electric utility market.
The individual in this position should be able to perform system‑level testing, verification and validation testing on complex industrial products that are heavy on networking and Ethernet technologies. Examples include teleprotection equipment, packet‑based multiplexers, substation automation equipment, and distribution automation equipment. The position will include testing of new software/firmware builds, hardware modules, conceiving and executing test cases, performing root cause analysis, and troubleshooting bugs/issues.
The individual must be able to participate in deep technical conversations about product testing and must be comfortable working in a lab environment for extended hours.
This position is for an engineer who enjoys working on all aspects of launching new products, works with a sense of urgency, and aspires to deliver top‑tier quality solutions to the end‑user.
A Day In The Life- Develop and execute detailed test plans and validation procedures on complex industrial‑grade products.
- Execute test cases for industrial products that are heavy on networking and Ethernet technologies.
- Perform system‑level testing to validate new software/firmware builds and release candidates.
- Act independently with considerable judgment and initiative to troubleshoot and perform root‑cause analysis of failed test cases, isolating and narrowing down issues intelligently.
- Troubleshoot and characterize product performance issues to improve product quality and reliability, ultimately leading to an improved product experience for the end‑user.
- Document test results, bugs, and issues using online tools such as VSTS, Test Rail, Bugzilla, and JIRA.
- An individual with strong passion and proficiency for product testing who desires to add value to the R&D group.
- BSEE, BSCS, or BSCE degree with at least five years of industrial experience; a master’s degree is preferred.
- Five years of experience as a system‑level test engineer validating new firmware, software (GUI applications), and embedded hardware.
- Strong understanding of system‑level testing concepts and methods such as smoke testing, integration testing, stress testing, and regression testing.
- Ability to independently execute test cases according to an outlined test plan.
- Proficiency in using test and validation tools such as Wireshark and terminal emulators (SSH, Telnet, PuTTY, etc.).
- Experience with web‑based test reporting and documentation tools such as Test Rail, JIRA, and VSTS.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to report test results, bugs, and observations.
- Demonstrated experience interacting with firmware and software developers, product engineers, and product management for test result review, discussion, and reporting.
- Experience working efficiently in a fast‑paced, goal‑oriented product development environment.
- A quick learner and self‑starter who can work effectively with minimal guidance.
- Aptitude for grasping and learning new concepts and technologies such as Carrier Ethernet, MPLS‑TP, and SDN to perform functional testing on products designed with these technologies.
