Senior Test Engineer - Embedded Systems & Networking

Job Overview

This position involves being part of an Engineering team that develops complex embedded hardware products in Teleprotection and communications for the electric utility market. The individual will perform system‑level testing, verification, and validation on networking‑heavy industrial products such as Teleprotection equipment, packet‑based multiplexers, substation automation equipment, and distribution automation equipment. Responsibilities include testing new software/firmware builds, hardware modules, executing test cases, conducting root‑cause analysis, and troubleshooting bugs and issues in a lab environment.

• Develop and execute detailed test plans and validation procedures on complex industrial‑grade products.
• Execute test cases for industrial products that are heavy on networking and Ethernet technologies.
• Perform system‑level testing to validate new software/firmware builds and release candidates.
• Act independently with judgment and initiative to troubleshoot and perform root‑cause analysis of failed test cases, isolating and narrowing down issues intelligently.
• Troubleshoot and characterize product performance issues to improve product quality and reliability for end‑users.
• Document test results, bugs, and issues using online tools such as VSTS, Test Rail, Bugzilla, and JIRA.

• Strong passion and proficiency for product testing, with a desire to add value to the R&D group.
• BSEE, BSCS, or BSCE degree with 5 years of industry experience;
  Master’s degree preferred.
• 5 years of experience as a System‑level Test Engineer validating firmware, software (GUI applications), and embedded hardware.
• Strong understanding of system‑level testing concepts and methods (smoke testing, integration testing, stress testing, regression testing).
• Ability to execute test cases independently according to outlined test plans.
• Proficiency in using testing and validation tools such as Wireshark and terminal emulators (SSH, Telnet, PuTTY).
• Familiarity with web‑based test reporting/documentation tools such as Test Rail, JIRA, and VSTS.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to report test results, bugs, and observations.
• Experience interacting with firmware/software developers, product engineers, and product management for test review and discussion.
• Efficient working in a fast‑paced, goal‑oriented product development environment.
• Self‑starter, quick learner, and minimal guidance required.
• Aptitude for grasping and learning new concepts and technologies such as Carrier Ethernet, MPLS‑TP, and SDN to successfully perform functional testing on products built with these technologies.
