Position: Environmental Geologist II 2 years min experience

AECOM is seeking a mid-level Geologist/Hydrogeologist for our Borger, Texas field office. Candidates should have at least 2 years of relevant environmental consulting or related experience and a strong interest in field-based work. This role supports multiple environmental projects within a collaborative, safety-focused culture, with opportunities for professional growth. The successful candidate will contribute to the execution of both routine and complex assessment, investigation, and remediation activities, strengthening AECOM’s commitment to technical excellence, advancement of innovative technologies, and regulatory compliance.

The position includes a balance of field and office responsibilities. Candidates should demonstrate flexibility across diverse projects, strong commitment to health and safety, and the ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities
  • Conducting site characterization and remedial investigation of surface and subsurface impacts using data collected from soil borings, test pits, surface and borehole geophysical surveys, aquifer testing, and sampling of environmental media (e.g., soil, groundwater, surface water, soil vapor, and air) for field screening and laboratory analysis
  • Preparing soil boring logs, interpreting vadose zone and groundwater characteristics, identifying pathways to environmental receptors, preparing technical site investigation reports, and supporting the development of remedial action plans based on site investigation data
  • Managing field sample chain-of-custody documentation, packaging, and shipping to laboratories
  • Overseeing contractor field tasks related to site investigation and remediation activities
  • Supporting the coordination of field activities, including utility locating, surveying, and oversight of investigation and remediation projects under the direction and guidance of project managers
  • Communicating effectively with project team members and subcontractors, and supporting client notifications related to change in field conditions
  • Building experience toward professional licensure (e.g., TX PG) and/or Site Safety Officer certification
  • Proactively recognizing and appropriately addressing health and safety issues affecting the entire team
  • Driving quality control of assigned tasks or small segments of a project
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in geology or a relevant geological science discipline (e.g., hydrogeology, geochemistry, soil science, or geological/environmental engineering) AND 2 years of relevant experience or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Valid driver’s license. Motor vehicle records check will be conducted
  • U.S. Citizen / U.S. Permanent Resident
  • Successful candidate will undergo background check, and drug assessment required by client
Preferred Qualifications
  • Position is permanently based at the AECOM Borger Field Office and requires residence within a 60‑mile commuting radius of the Borger, TX facility
  • Minimum 3 years of environmental investigation and remediation experience needed
  • Experience conducting environmental site assessments, site characterization, subsurface investigations, and remediation projects through the TCEQ Texas Risk Reduction Program
  • Experience working at an active refinery site
  • Knowledge of environmental sampling methods and experience using field equipment (e.g., GPS, PID, 4‑gas meter, digital data collection, etc.)
  • Experience performing independent field work and providing oversight of contractor field activities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience documenting and reporting technical data and safety observations
  • Proficient with basic computer programs (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Previous experience managing and tracking hazardous and non-hazardous waste for offsite transport and disposal
  • 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER certificate or annual refresher certificate
  • 10‑hour and/or 30‑hour OSHA Construction Supervisory certificate
  • First Aid/CPR certificate
