Position: Fire Protection Service Tech I - IFR (Extinguishers)

Position Summary

Put your maintenance and repair skills to good use at Vallen as a Service Technician I focused on Instrument, Fire, and Respiratory services in the Vallen Safety Services group. In this position you will perform inspections, testing, maintenance, and repairs on safety equipment for established customers on a scheduled basis.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct service calls.
  • Identify equipment discrepancies.
  • Prepare accurate and timely Technician Worksheets (TWS) and reports.
  • Provide customer service for inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of life safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, fire hose, gas detection monitors, respiratory equipment, fall protection equipment, and safety shower/eyewash units.
  • Ensure testing and repair documentation is complete and submitted for invoicing.
  • Provide required copies of documentation to the customer upon servicing.
  • Apply knowledge of regulatory standards (OSHA, NFPA, state regulations, Vallen SOPs).
  • Work safely at all times.
  • Assist in shipping and receiving, unloading trucks, checking merchandise, matching purchase orders to sales orders, and distributing to sales associates.
  • Use company assets such as vehicle, inventory, safety equipment, laptop, scanner, test equipment, tools, radio, cell phone, fuel card and/or credit card as required.
  • Maintain proper care of all assets per Vallen policies.
Job Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of one certification (manufacturer or state).
  • Minimum of one year related experience.
  • Mechanically inclined with proficiency in hand tools.
  • Experience in inspection, testing, maintenance and repair of safety equipment.
  • Ability to repair and service equipment sold by Vallen North America.
  • Valid motor vehicle license with good driving record.
  • Commercial driver’s license required if carrying hazardous materials.
  • Maintain a minimum productivity of 80% within 60 days.
  • Keep all certifications and licenses current through continuing education.
  • Read, write, and comprehend English operational, process, and quality instructions.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • Work indoors and outdoors in field service.
  • Potential work in hazardous environments within plants; requires safety precautions and appropriate equipment.
  • Operate in varying weather conditions (cold/heat) during day and night.
  • Regularly required to talk and hear.
  • Occasional lifting up to 55 lbs.
  • Climb stairwells up to 15 levels.
  • Use ladders up to 24 ft high.
  • Walk at normal pace for up to 15 continuous minutes.
  • Stand for 8‑10 hours.
  • Bend, climb, and stoop as needed for equipment access.
  • Pass all test requirements to be approved to work offshore (if applicable).
