Position Summary
Lead Service Technician focused on Life Safety Services in the Vallen Safety Services Group. Install, inspect, test, and maintain (ITM) life safety systems and equipment for established customers on a scheduled basis.
EssentialJob Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide quality of service to customers and assist assigned HTS technicians with proper training in Vallen standard operating procedures.
- Provide customer service in the installation and/or ITM of Life Safety Systems, including Fire Extinguishers, Fire Alarm and Detection Systems, Gas Detection Systems, Foam Systems, Dry Chemical Systems, Clean Agent Systems, Special Hazard Systems and Water Based Systems.
- Have job coordination responsibilities in the absence of a Technician Lead if assigned by the supervisor/manager for specific jobs or customers.
- Lead other technicians within area of expertise.
- Interact with customers to coordinate job activities.
- Ensure all documentation associated with assigned tasks is completed accurately, completely and turned in for proper invoicing.
- Provide required copies to the customer upon servicing equipment.
- Be knowledgeable of all regulatory standards pertaining to assigned duties (State, OSHA, NFPA, etc.).
- Handle Parts & Equipment requests for specific assigned jobs.
- Maintain accurate inventories related to job and maintenance orders.
- Always exhibit safe work practices.
- Assist shipping and receiving, unloading trucks, checking in merchandise, matching purchase orders to sales orders and distributing to sales associates for processing.
- Use company provided assets such as a company vehicle, inventory, safety equipment, laptop, scanner, test equipment, tools, radio, cell phone, fuel card and/or credit card.
- Maintain proper care of all assets as defined by Vallen policies.
- Have immediate supervision over a tech service unit.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Minimum 3 certifications (manufacturing/state) in a fire protection related field.
- NICET II certification or greater.
- Fire Alarm & Ext A 2-4 years’ experience or WBS Construction 2-4 years’ experience (Industry related).
- RME-I certification (if applicable).
- Mechanically inclined with strong hand tool skills.
- Advanced communication, initiative, and problem‑solving skills.
- Experience in the installation and/or maintenance, repair and service of Life Safety Systems and equipment.
- Advance industry segment knowledge.
- Maintain minimum productivity of 95% within 60 days.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully manage a Customer Account or Project.
- Ability to repair and service equipment sold by Vallen.
- Current motor vehicle license with good driving record.
- Commercial Driver’s License required if carrying loads of hazardous materials.
- Proficient with hand tools.
- Ability to complete repairs and maintenance of equipment in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ability to provide assistance, advise and training to Vallen associates and plant personnel.
- Assist warehouse personnel with order fulfillment if needed.
- Keep all certifications and licenses current and renewed by completing continuing education as required.
- Must pass a drug & alcohol screen, physical exam, and background check.
- Working conditions vary with service work performed indoors and out in the field.
- Possibility of working in hazardous environments requiring safety precautions and appropriate equipment.
- Ability to work in varied weather (cold/heat) during day or night operations.
- Employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
- Occasional lifting of items weighting a maximum of 55 lbs.
- Ability to climb stairwells up to 15 levels high.
- Ability to ascend and descend ladders (step, extension, cage) up to 24' high.
- Able to walk at a normal pace for up to 15 continuous minutes.
- Able to work from a standing position for 8-10 hours.
- Bending, climbing, and stooping as needed for access to equipment.
- Pass all test requirements to be approved to work offshore (if applicable).
