Maintenance Section Assistant – (2601642) – at the Borger Maintenance Section in the Amarillo District. Support the Maintenance Section Supervisor by coordinating crews, providing day‑to‑day guidance, and ensuring work is completed efficiently across a designated service area. Minimum Salary: $57,614.00

Maximum Salary: $90,000.00

• Assist the Maintenance Section Supervisor in overseeing work completed by crews and contractors to maintain safe roadways within a designated geographical area.
• Lead transportation maintenance crews and support staff.
• Respond to emergency notifications on an as‑needed basis.
• Assist in budget preparation for the section.
• Schedule equipment, material, and personnel necessary for section projects.
• Plan, coordinate, and implement emergency response to inclement weather, accidents, and hazardous spills affecting area roadways.
• Ensure all projects follow established safety guidelines.
• Inspect road conditions, work in progress and work completed by crews and contractors.
• Operate light and heavy roadway equipment (as required).
• Serve as a lead worker by scheduling daily work assignments, serving as a resource for complex questions, troubleshooting problems, presenting operational updates, providing input on team members’ career conversations, and approving leave requests to ensure operational coverage.
• Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.

• Education: High School Graduate or equivalent in general education.
• Experience: 6 years of experience in roadway maintenance or construction‑related work (full‑time or prorated part‑time). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted on a year‑per‑year basis.

• Knowledge:
  • Methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work.
  • Materials used in highway and bridge construction and maintenance.
  • The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes.
• Considerable Knowledge:
  • Budgeting methods and procedures.
  • Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external.
  • Lead, assign, review, and monitor the work of others.
  • Coordinate labor, materials, and equipment.
  • Prepare and maintain confidential and sensitive records, files, and reports.
  • Maintain a safe and effective working relationship with others.

• Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold and heat (below 32°F or above 100°F for more than an hour).
• Subject to noise, vibration, and hazards from moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places, heat, or chemicals.
