Maintenance Section Assistant

We're hiring a Maintenance Section Assistant for our Borger Maintenance Section in the Amarillo District. Step into a key leadership role, helping oversee roadway maintenance operations that keep the traveling public safe. In this position, you'll support the Maintenance Section Supervisor by coordinating crews, providing day-to-day guidance, and ensuring work is completed efficiently across a designated service area. Minimum Salary: 57,614.00

Maximum Salary: 90,000.00

Position Description Assists a Maintenance Section Supervisor in overseeing work completed by the crews and contractors, which provides a safe driving thoroughfare within a designated geographical area. Leads the work of transportation maintenance crews and support staff. Work requires responding to emergency notification on an as needed basis. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

Essential Duties:
Assists in budget preparation for the section. Assists the maintenance section supervisor in overseeing the work of the section and contracted crews including scheduling equipment, material and personnel necessary for section projects. Assists with planning, coordinating and implementing emergency response to inclement weather, accidents, and hazardous spills affecting area roadways. Ensures all projects follow established safety guidelines. Inspects road conditions, work-in-progress and work completed by the crews and contractors.

Leads the work of transportation maintenance crews and support staff May operate light and heavy roadway equipment. Responsible for operations of section in absence of supervisor. Serves as a lead worker by scheduling daily work assignments; serving as a resource for complex questions and troubleshooting of problems; presenting operational updates to the supervisor; providing input on team members' career conversations;

and approving leave requests to ensure operational coverage. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

High School Grad or Equivalent in general education

Experience:

6 years of experience in roadway maintenance or construction related work (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent) Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for

Certifications:

Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Commercial Driver Certificate Class A Commercial Driver's License

Competencies:

Extensive knowledge of Methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work Materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification code Considerable knowledge of Budgeting methods and procedures Expert skill in Scheduling work assignments Proficient skill in Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external Leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others Coordinating labor, materials, and equipment Preparing and maintaining confidential and sensitive records, files, and reports Maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others
