Job Description
The Simulator Technician applies advanced technical knowledge to solve complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturers' manuals or similar documents. Examples of such problems include isolating malfunctions, incorporating engineering changes, calculating wave forms, and tracing relationships in signal flow, using complex test instruments and computer control equipment. Work may be reviewed by supervisor for general compliance with accepted practices.

- Work typically requires an understanding of the interrelationships of systems and circuits, exercising independent judgment in performing such tasks as making system and circuit analyses. Applies technical knowledge to perform advanced technical requirements or troubleshooting.
- Performs such tasks as replacing components, wiring circuits, and repairing electronic/mechanical/hydraulic/pneumatic equipment. Analyzing test readings by using test instruments such as digital multimeters, signal generators, semiconductor testers, logic analyzers, lan cable analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
- Receive technical guidance, as required, from supervisor, aircrew, or engineering support staff.
- Initiates and devises troubleshooting strategy and solutions from advanced knowledge, technical resources, or collaboration with aircrew, supervisor, or engineering support staff.
- Conducts routine and emergent systems quality checks, documents anomalies and reports to supervisor.
- Able to follow oral and written instructions with limited supervision.
- Completes scheduled/unscheduled maintenance and pre-/post-flight operation within performance standard guidelines on training devices.
- Estimates costs, schedule, parts, and tools required to efficiently repair training device failures.
- Follows standard on-the-job security/safety practices.
- Provide back-up across program operations as needed.
- Other duties as required.
Competencies
Required skills and abilities to effectively perform this position include, but are not limited to:
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Office products including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and project management. Additionally, must be knowledgeable of design, development, and database software, and use the Internet at intermediate level of proficiency to reference and create and maintain moderate to more complex software coding, drawings, or supplemental original or updated documents. May make presentations on diagrams and supporting documentation to management.
- To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to communicate clearly and persuasively through oral or written form; is guided by common interpersonal courtesies, security protocol, professional, and technical vernacular in oral and written communications in the workplace. Manage difficult or emotional customer situations and personal emotions and responds promptly to customer technical requirements. Listens, solicits feedback, integrates viable ideas of others in problem solutions, and takes initiative to build positive customer relationships.
Participate in group meetings and may facilitate business related presentations. - To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and solve technical problems. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions from oral, mathematical, narrative, or diagram form including abstract visual and concrete variables. May work independently, or with moderate to limited supervision based on experience level.
Education and Experience
Three years related experience in simulation systems, engineering, or other industries troubleshooting electronic/mechanical equipment. Thorough knowledge of the use of electronic testing, monitoring, and repair tools. Must understand Aircraft and Weapon Systems.
Supervisory Responsibility This position will not have authority or responsibility for the leadership and supervision of others.
Work Environment, Programs, and Tools While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to and may work near moving mechanical parts/or with electrical components. The employee may be exposed to moderate noise levels, vibration, or virtual motion simulations.
