This position leads patient care using the nursing process within the Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code, and Scope & Standards of Practice. The nurse administers care under school system guidelines, participates in student care implementation and evaluation, and ensures health, comfort, and safety of students.
EducationRequired:
Graduate of an accredited nursing school.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Required:
None.
Required:
Current registered nurse (RN) license in state of practice.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)- Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Administers nursing care within a school system.
- Uses the nursing process in the delivery of patient/student care.
- Assesses learning needs and implements teaching strategies appropriate for the diverse needs of patients, families and other groups or disciplines.
- Uses data, information, and knowledge to evaluate and promote change in order to achieve optimal outcomes.
- Embraces concepts and behaviors that enhance customer satisfaction and employee morale and improve the nursing profession.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, methods of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures, requesting permissions and communication style.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory agency requirements that apply to the area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations, and standards.
Physical demands include occasional lifting of 50–100 pounds and frequent lifting of 25–50 pounds, with continuous lifting of 10–20 pounds. Work may involve exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, hazardous medications, and hazardous waste. Occupations may involve exposure to communicable diseases.
