Registered Nurse - ER
The position requires a registered nurse specialized in emergency care. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in the emergency department. First-time travelers must have 2 years of permanent staff RN experience in acute care. Patients in the unit include infants and those at end-of-life stages. The unit manages all acuity levels including Med Surg, Stepdown, and ICU.
Traumas are stabilized and transferred. Types of cases include STEMI, NSTEMI, heart failure, strokes requiring intervention, spinal precautions, seizures, DKA, sepsis, respiratory failure, renal failure, COVID-19, ETOH, IVDA, GI illnesses, and infections. Patient ratios may vary with RNs typically assigned 3-4 patients or 5 in fast-track areas. Candidates must be willing to complete an EKG competency exam as part of compliance.
Charge nurses may take patient assignments, and there are in-house phlebotomy and respiratory therapists available. Clientists are available 24/7. The charting system is an EMR platform. Weekend rotations are mandatory every other weekend. Scheduling may require working 4 days one week and 3 days the next week. Requests for time off are limited to 7 days, with restrictions on weekends and major holidays.
Professionalism is a mandatory requirement; cell phone usage is prohibited in patient care areas. Travelers are expected to dress in specific scrub colors and adhere to dress code policies. A culture of friendliness toward travelers is maintained on the unit. Failure to meet professionalism standards may result in disciplinary action.
