Registered Nurse - PCU

This position involves working in a stepdown unit with a capacity of 12 beds. Patient types include respiratory failure, sepsis, stroke, DKA, and patients post heart catheterization or aortogram/arteriogram. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3. Charge nurses will take patient assignments. There will be no phlebotomy services on the unit. An IV/VAT team is available for PICC/midline placements. Resource nursing is dependent on staffing.

Respiratory therapy and hospitalist services are available 24/7. The charting system used is EMR:
Meditech Expanse. IV pumps used are Alaris, and medication dispensing is done via Pyxis. Floating to other units may occur, including a stroke unit and med-surg unit with a ratio of 1:5-6. Scheduling will include a weekend rotation every other weekend. The nurse will work 4 days one week and 3 days the next week, which is mandatory. There may be flexibility in scheduling such as 3/2 or 5/2 rotations.

Time off may be requested for up to 7 days, and any full week of requested time off will require an extension of the contract. Only one weekend of requested time off is allowed per 13-week contract. No on-call requirements are included. The expectation is to work 2 out of 3 major holidays. Scrub color requirement is pewter. T-shirts must be gray, white, or black with a designated monogram.

Jackets must be gray or black. Badges must be worn above the waist and in full view at all times. Professionalism is mandatory, so cell phone usage in patient care areas, wearing earbuds, and eating at the desk is not permitted.

Experience:

2 years of permanent staff RN experience in acute care License:
Active state RN license required

Certifications:

BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have:
Traveler will be required to pass an EKG competency exam as part of compliance prior to arrival. Experience with CVL management and placement, foley cath management, tube feedings via NGT or PEG, arterial lines, diabetes management, and drip titration preferred.
