Director of Nursing – Skilled Nursing Facility
A skilled nursing facility in Bossier City, Louisiana is seeking an experienced Director of Nursing (DON) to lead nursing operations and oversee the clinical performance of the facility.
This is a key leadership role for a strong nursing professional who understands skilled nursing, regulatory compliance, staff development, survey readiness, and the day-to-day demands of leading a nursing department in a long-term care environment.
The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader who can build a strong clinical team, create accountability, and maintain high standards for resident care.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and oversee all nursing department operations
- Manage and support nursing leadership and clinical staff
- Recruit, train, coach, and retain nursing team members
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels and nursing coverage
- Oversee resident assessments, care plans, documentation, and clinical services
- Monitor quality measures, incidents, rehospitalizations, infections, and changes in resident condition
- Maintain survey readiness and support compliance with federal and state requirements
- Develop and implement plans of correction and quality improvement initiatives
- Partner closely with the Administrator and interdisciplinary leadership team
- Monitor nursing documentation and clinical practices for accuracy and compliance
- Oversee infection prevention and control practices
- Address resident and family concerns professionally and promptly
- Establish clear performance expectations and accountability across the nursing department
- Support staff education, competency, and ongoing clinical development
- Collaborate with physicians, rehabilitation, pharmacy, and other care partners
- Active Louisiana Registered Nurse license in good standing
- Previous Director of Nursing experience in a skilled nursing facility strongly preferred
- Strong skilled nursing and long-term care background
- Thorough understanding of survey readiness and regulatory compliance
- Strong knowledge of clinical documentation, care planning, staffing, infection prevention, and quality measures
- Proven ability to lead, develop, and retain nursing teams
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple clinical and operational priorities in a fast-paced environment
