Overview

The Director of Accounting will lead accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of commercial real estate assets. This role is hands-on and highly collaborative, requiring strong technical real estate accounting expertise, people leadership, and the ability to deliver accurate financials in a fast-paced environment. The Director partners closely with clients, internal teams, auditors, and senior leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for clients, lenders, and partners
  • Ensure compliance with management agreements, joint venture agreements, loan documents, and other governing agreements
  • Support accounting for complex transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, debt activity, and lease structures
  • Partner with property and asset management teams on budgets, forecasts, CAM reconciliations, and client deliverables
  • Lead onboarding and offboarding of properties, including system setup, banking activity, and data integrity
  • Ensure accuracy of lease data and consistency across accounting systems
  • Maintain working knowledge of client accounting platforms across multiple portfolios
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals
  • Manage deadlines and review processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting
  • Serve as primary accounting contact for audits and tax engagements
  • Drive process improvements, documentation, and operational efficiency initiatives
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
  • 7+ years of commercial real estate accounting experience
  • 3–5 years of people management experience
  • Strong experience with real estate financial reporting and CAM reconciliations
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills
  • Comfortable working in a technology-driven, paperless environment
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and deadline-oriented
