Our client, a well-established and highly regarded Boston-based law firm, is looking to add a Senior Accountant to its Accounting team. This position is ideal for an experienced accounting professional with 4+ years of progressive experience who thrives in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.
The role offers a base salary range of $100K–$120K, depending on experience.
Core Responsibilities- Maintain complete and accurate accounting records in compliance with internal controls and firm policies
- Administer and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, and documentation
- Review existing accounting workflows and implement enhancements to improve accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness
- Oversee and ensure effective use of accounting systems supporting timekeeping, billing, bookkeeping, and financial reporting
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and work review for junior and staff-level accountants
- Monitor daily cash activity and report balances to accounting and finance leadership
- Manage accounts payable schedules and ensure timely payment of vendors, taxes, and corporate credit cards
- Review and approve all disbursements (ACH, wire, and checks), ensuring proper authorization and supporting documentation
- Maintain fixed asset schedules, including reconciliations and disposals
- Ensure proper document retention and organization within the firm’s document management system
- Prepare and post journal entries on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, including depreciation, intercompany, and benefits-related entries
- Complete month-end bank reconciliations for payroll, operating, money market, and IOLTA/escrow accounts; research and resolve discrepancies
- Reconcile escrow accounts and ensure adherence to abandoned property regulations
- Review general ledger activity to confirm accurate expense classification and assist with new GL account setup as needed
- Prepare, analyze, and present financial reporting related to revenue, receivables, payables, and trustee fees
- Process partner draws, distributions, capital interest, and retirement payments; maintain partner capital and net worth schedules
- Coordinate payroll funding, postings, and reconciliations in collaboration with the payroll team
- Support annual reviews, tax filings, regulatory reporting, and internal and external audits
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience)
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience; professional services or law firm experience strongly preferred
- Strong analytical and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Proven ability to handle confidential and fiduciary financial matters with discretion and integrity
- Effective communicator comfortable partnering with attorneys, staff, and senior leadership
- Ability to manage complex accounting tasks under tight deadlines and frequent interruptions
