The Tax Manager will serve as a trusted advisor to clients, providing technical expertise and strategic tax planning across a range of engagement types.
Responsibilities- Act as a trusted advisor to clients by demonstrating strong technical expertise, awareness of industry trends, and proactive communication of solutions to client and engagement teams.
- Prepare and review corporate income tax provisions, including ASC 740 calculations such as effective tax rate analysis, deferred tax items, and uncertain tax positions.
- Oversee quarterly and annual tax provision reporting for both public and private companies, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial reporting standards.
- Review and oversee preparation of complex federal and state tax returns, including C Corporations (1120), S Corporations (1120S), Partnerships (1065), and Individual returns (1040).
- Provide technical guidance on corporate and pass-through entity tax compliance, including foreign filings such as Forms 5471, 5472, and GILTI.
- Research and resolve complex tax issues, drafting memoranda and recommendations for clients and internal teams.
- Manage and delegate work to tax staff, providing coaching, technical review, and performance feedback.
- Participate in and lead tax planning initiatives for corporations, pass-through entities, and individuals, including scenario modeling (BNA projections) and identifying tax‑saving opportunities.
- Respond to IRS and state notices by analyzing issues and drafting technical responses.
- Act as the primary client contact on smaller engagements; build and maintain strong relationships through high‑quality service and responsiveness.
- Support firm growth by assisting with billing, discussing fees with clients, and participating in practice development initiatives.
- Contribute to tax department operations by leading internal projects, developing processes, and mentoring team members.
- Collaborate with firm leadership and other service lines to deliver comprehensive solutions to clients.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field.
- Master’s degree in Taxation or related field preferred.
- CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA) credentials required.
- 6+ years of taxation experience, including prior public accounting experience; prior managerial experience highly preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and team members.
- Proven project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Proficiency with tax and accounting technology; experience with CCH Axcess, Sure Prep, and XCM is highly preferred.
This is a full‑time position with standard hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional hours, including some evenings and weekends, will be required during peak busy seasons.
