Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join their team. This individual will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing while maintaining compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, experience processing multi-state payroll, and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
Key Responsibilities- Process payroll for both exempt and non-exempt employees on a regular schedule.
- Review and validate employee time records, attendance, and payroll changes to ensure accuracy.
- Maintain and update employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, compensation changes, bonuses, and deductions.
- Accurately calculate wages, overtime, taxes, benefits deductions, garnishments, and other payroll-related adjustments.
- Ensure payroll activities comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Prepare payroll reports, reconcile payroll transactions, and support general ledger activity as needed.
- Partner with Human Resources and Finance teams to ensure employee data is accurate and up to date.
- Respond to employee questions related to payroll, deductions, taxes, and direct deposit in a timely and professional manner.
- Process off-cycle payrolls, final paychecks, and special payments when necessary.
- Review employee expense reports for accuracy and process reimbursements.
- Administer wage garnishments, tax levies, child support orders, and other required with holdings.
- Assist with year-end payroll activities, including W-2 processing and payroll tax reconciliations.
- Support internal and external payroll audits by providing requested documentation.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of employee compensation and personal information.
- Identify opportunities to streamline payroll processes and improve efficiency.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- 3+ years of payroll processing experience, including multi-state payroll experience required.
- Strong understanding of payroll laws, tax regulations, and wage and hour compliance.
- Experience working with payroll systems and related technologies.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
