JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary

The Tax Senior, Core Tax Services is responsible for utilizing research skills, applying tax foundational knowledge to understand potential tax issues, gathering client information necessary for filing, participating in tax planning, recognizing and communicating potential risks, preparing tax accrual work papers, and working with tax software applications to complete tax returns for review. The role may also involve supervising and reviewing the work of Core Tax Services Associates.

Job Duties
  • Tax Compliance
    • Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens.
    • Manages projects by planning the tax process and procedures with quality.
    • Answers preparer questions and coordinates engagement from onset.
    • Conducts detailed reviews on all returns and prepares review notes; raises potential tax issues.
    • Meets internal deadlines to match client expectations for timely delivery of service.
    • Identifies book‑to‑tax differences.
  • Research
    • Identifies when research is needed, frames issues, and reports the analysis.
    • Applies firm and professional standards for preparation of WTA and tax returns.
  • ASC 740 (FAS 109 & FIN 48) Tax Accruals
    • Applies firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48.
    • Prepares provision work papers and discusses with team members.
    • Identifies and discusses uncertain positions with teammates.
    • Reviews & prepares footnote disclosures in compliance with 740‑10‑55.
  • Tax Consulting
    • Develops, recommends, and implements methods to maximize client benefits.
    • Identifies consulting opportunities to reduce client tax liability.
    • Provides support for client consulting projects.
    • Gathers relevant information for controversy work.
    • Documents significant tax positions and archives memoranda to Go File Room .
  • Strategy Development
    • Introduces new or improved ideas to improve clients, firm, or personnel.
    • Prepares studies of tax implications and offers alternative courses of action.
  • Other duties as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage day‑to‑day work assignments of Core Tax Services Associates.
  • Provide verbal and written performance feedback.
  • Act as mentor to Associates.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics OR a Bachelor's in another focus area and CPA certification (or eligibility to test for CPA).
  • Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation, preferred.
Qualifications, Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Two or more years of prior relevant tax experience or public accounting experience.
  • Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties, preferred.
  • Prior basic supervisory experience, preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions, prepare simple tax returns, take initiative, delegate, train others.
  • Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills.
  • Teamwork orientation.
License/Certifications
  • CPA, Attorney (U.S. jurisdiction), or IRS Enrolled Agent, preferred.
  • Other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role, preferred.
Software
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software.

California: $84,000 – $110,000
Colorado: $80,000 – $85,000
Illinois: $80,000 – $93,000
Maryland: $90,000 – $94,000
Minnesota: $75,000 – $84,000
Massachusetts: $85,000 – $95,000
New Jersey: $82,000 – $112,000
Ohio: $81,000 – $95,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $100,000 – $118,000
Washington: $81,900 – $91,400
Washington DC: $93,000 – $98,000
