- Analyze and reconcile all balance sheet accounts monthly for assigned properties.
- Prepare and post journal entries including accruals, reclasses, and adjustments.
- Send preliminary financial statements to account executives and property managers, incorporate feedback, and issue final financials in accordance with contractual due dates.
- Monitor cash flow and ensure timely processing of payments across assigned properties.
- Communicate proactively with account executives, property managers, and team leads on financial matters, variances, and reporting deliverables.
- Maintain client financial information on a strictly confidential basis.
- Provide direct oversight of 2 to 3 remote staff accountants, reviewing their monthly financial work papers, reconciliations, and journal entries for accuracy and completeness.
- Serve as a day-to-day resource and go-to mentor for staff accountants, answering questions and providing guidance on accounting treatment, system usage, and process.
- Review at least two financials per staff accountant per month to identify trends, recurring issues, and development opportunities.
- Support staff accountants through onboarding, training on Barkan systems and processes, and ongoing professional development.
- Communicate team performance and workload concerns to the Accounting Team Lead in a timely manner.
- Ensure that all financial statements produced by the team are accurate, complete, and delivered on time per contractual obligations.
- Identify recurring issues or coding errors across the team portfolio and work proactively with staff accountants to resolve them.
- Participate in year-end audit preparation and support external auditors with work papers, schedules, and documentation as needed.
- Support budget review process for assigned properties, ensuring submitted budgets are complete and accurate before finalization.
- Other tasks as directed by the Accounting Team Lead or Controller.
- Minimum of 4+ years of property accounting experience, with a strong foundation in community association and/or multi-family accounting.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a portfolio of properties end to end, including monthly close, balance sheet reconciliation, financial statement preparation, and variance analysis.
- Prior experience mentoring, training, or reviewing the work of junior accounting staff preferred; a readiness to step into that role is required.
- Proficiency in CINC and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Familiarity with Yardi or similar multi-family accounting platforms a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work effectively with remote team members, account executives, and property managers.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
- High standards of integrity and confidentiality in all client matters.
- Reading and writing work-related documents in English, reviewing financial reports and applying accounting principles.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with remote team members, account executives, and external partners.
