Accounts Payable Manager

Schedule: Full-Time, Onsite
Employment Type: Contract (Approximately 6 Months) with Strong Potential for Permanent Hire
Our client, a well-established professional services organization in the Boston area, is seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Manager to lead and stabilize its Accounts Payable function. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on AP leader with a strong background in the legal industry who enjoys improving processes, managing teams, and ensuring efficient day-to-day AP operations.
The ideal candidate will bring leadership experience within a large law firm or professional services environment and have expertise in legal accounting systems, vendor management, and driving operational efficiencies.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the day-to-day Accounts Payable function, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices, payments, and disbursements.
- Manage vendor relationships and resolve payment or account discrepancies.
- Oversee invoice processing, check runs, electronic payments, and AP reconciliations.
- Support month-end close activities, including account reconciliations and reporting.
- Supervise and mentor the Accounts Payable team while establishing best practices and ensuring high-quality service.
- Evaluate and improve AP processes, documenting workflows and implementing operational efficiencies.
- Help stabilize AP operations within a manual environment while identifying opportunities for automation and continuous improvement.
- Partner with Finance, Accounting, and other business departments to ensure compliance with internal controls and company policies.
- Assist with special projects and process improvement initiatives as needed.
- 5+ years of progressive Accounts Payable experience, including leadership responsibilities.
- Previous experience as an Accounts Payable Manager or Senior AP Lead within a large organization.
- Strong background managing high-volume AP operations and vendor relationships.
- Experience leading teams and driving process improvements.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Large law firm accounting experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience with in a professional services organization.
- Hands-on experience with Aderant, Elite/3E
, or other legal accounting platforms. - Experience working within large, complex finance organizations.
- Proven ability to document workflows, improve processes, and enhance operational efficiency.
